Most Subaru owners replace spark plugs when they fail, and that approach is costing them tens of thousands of miles of engine life they will never get back. After working on Subarus for years I have seen this trick transform engines developing oil consumption at 80,000 miles and stop early carbon buildup in its tracks on direct injection FB25 engines. The trick has three components: replacing plugs at exactly half the manufacturer’s recommended interval, selecting the correct heat range for your specific driving pattern and power level, and gapping to the tight end of the factory specification. In this video I explain why each component matters at the combustion chemistry level, which specific plugs to use in each Subaru engine, and how to install them correctly so the results actually hold over 300,000 miles.
