The MOST Important Subaru Modification for RELIABILITY

The MOST Important Subaru Modification for RELIABILITY

In this video, we show you how to fix a huge issue that is known to plague many EJ powered engines – cracked oil pickups. In addition, we show you how to change out the windage tray and oil pan for a high-capacity IAG pan with baffles. These modifications will help make this Subaru WRX more reliable, and provide some peace of mind during spirited driving.

If baffle stops the slushing around of oil, will installing this means I no longer need AOS?

@chrissorobio says:

Just slapped the “street” version on my VA STI

I see a lot of people have questions about the product and their own cars. Might be able to answer a few questions

The bolt size for the pickup, windage tray, and oil pan bolts are 5mm in a hex (allen key)

The drain plug is an 10mm in a hex (allen key)

The bung is a 5mm in a hex as well. However, all my 5mm did not fit so I actually used a T30 and it fit perfectly

If you have a magnetic drain plug it won’t fit due to the baffle tray. I had a GReddy drain plug and it stuck out too far so it would hit the tray. I just used the supply drain plug in the IAG kit. I kept my GReddy plug for another car.

The stock skid plate still fits

You WILL NEED to remove the stock heat shield for the driver side portion. You will not be able to finesse your IAG oil pan past that heat shield. 3 12mm bolts and you’ll be free.

You will need an STI dip stick to if you have an 02-05 WRX/2.0

The dipstick will be a lot more “free/loose” vs the stock pan. I don’t find myself yanking the dipstick out like I did with my OEM pan.

If you have an aftermarket sway bar. You will need to loosen the brackets. Don’t need to unbolt it all the way but my whitelines wouldn’t let my socket clear even with a wobbly socket. Just loosen it you’ll be fine

Is this needed or suggested for an automatic 05 USDM FXT? Really jsut used to cruise and occasional pulls here and there. Or is this overkill?

@thecookeman says:

You need a longer oil dip stick for ej205/7 engines? I can see this was installed on a ej255

I did this install in roughly 4 hours. 2 jack stands a jack and a dream. It was a bitch, a nightmare if you will. Overall it fits well looks nice and definitely is better than my dented oil pan and cracked pickup tube. 8/10 product. might update later.

@egx161 says:

Really? what about all of the excess RTV ending up in the oil pickup strainer?

@joshuawalters7377 says:

Looks nice but I’ll stick with killer b. Windage tray does look more comprehensive

@mrwnking says:

i been looking at those oil pans. will they fit on a 97 subaru legacy outback l wagon ej22 2.2l.

@alexhess726 says:

Does anyone know the torque specs for the engine mounts?

@randy-007 says:

Hey , will this pan work on a stock SOHC 2.5I legacy 2009 no turbo yet .

@alesana4546 says:

I love subarus but fuck I'm starting to think they are junk why dose the car not come this way if there is a problem with oil starvation in corners why is there not a recall to fix these issues

@KennedySilva06 says:

Any advices for a stock 2009 WRX? Do i need these oil picks, and what about IAG Stage 2 oil pump?

@rotaryx3 says:

For FA20 too?

@Xrc53 says:

So the spacer on the pickup tube is a must even with the street version of the IAG oil pan?

@tswid4495 says:

How on earth did you put it in without removing headers

@Flushfitment says:

If anyone’s wondering how long or how difficult it is, on a 2004 wrx 2.0L with a hoist with no prior experience I would estimate 2-3hrs, with a bit of experience 1.5-2hrs. On the ground I’d say expect 3hrs, not as difficult as some make it seem. I was scared to attempt it, but this video is exactly how it went. Huge help!! Very happy with the results:)

@dreambiggarage says:

And why did u switch between Nm and ftlbs. lol?

@dreambiggarage says:

lol man that glove took a beating would have been just as easy to take the exhaust manifold off lol did mention if you reuse any of the or pan o rings?

@ixieboy says:

what socket is used for the drain plug?

@Robert.A-yq7qy says:

What happened to the Black Wix O/F? It Changed to a Yellow @ the end

@wndr_lusti says:

What was the purpose of the 2 little dabs if the Fuji Bond? I am curios as to why 2 little dabs and not the entire surface. But I am also confused because the pan already has a gasket. Thanks in advance

@RyanPoulson says:

do N/A subaru engines have the oil pickup issue?
