In this video, we have a 2017 Subaru Impreza in the shop because the owner noticed gear oil drips on her garage floor. A quick look underneath confirms the pinion seal is leaking, but as soon as I dig a little deeper, I find the root cause: the differential vent is plugged solid. To make matters worse, as soon as I touched it, the vent crumbled to dust.
What started as a straightforward seal replacement just turned into a much bigger job involving more disassembly than originally planned.

I especially like all the Subaru videos you've been posting over the past 2 years or so, having an outback these videos give me a lot of good insight on things to manage. After this disgusting, salty winter I'll need to get under and clean off the diff, not only for this but also one of the previous ones where her diff rotted out from pooling up salty nonsense on top.

Yeah… perfect repair for a not-long-for-this-world car. Now you're making me want to wash the bottom of my Hondoo here in TX we got the salt road treatment recently. I want another 100k out of my '08 Ody.
