Glad i watched this got the saturn to recap. I have done the snes / n64 / xbox / ps1 all with the twist method as this appeared to be the best method as advised by many people. I will try out this method going forward with my hot air station thank you very much !

Hi Voultar. I wanted to drop a comment that I was watching your stream when this happened. Your thought process really got me to do a series of recaps for many systems. I was able to do 2 VA0s recently and I feel very good about being able to preserve these units for the foreseeable future. I hope you're doing well and I wanted to say thank you for the entire lesson. Looking forward to seeing more workshops soon.

Also, a question, does anyone know the song playing at 1:29:26? I've been trying to find this song for a while.

best teacher on youtube for this stuff. I used plenty of your videos throughout the years. I started off with the xstation

Even after so long, this stream is like a lullaby to me when i want to watch something before bed. Not because it's boring, but because it's super reassuring to watch you solder with such confidence. And also the way you explain things is just wonderful. Hopefully, you recover well and soon, man!

I’m going to try and replace the power supply with a usbc mod from robot retro

I have a Japanese white Saturn and what Capacitor bundle do I need?

@andrewlee5112 says:

I just want to say thank you, Voultar. It is because of you that I had the confidence to recap my Sega Saturn (including the power supply and the cd drive) and I even installed a FRAM chip on my backup Saturn that has a fenrir. It took slightly longer to heat my board to the point where the caps would come off (I have a 40 dollar Chinese special for a hot air unit) but they did. One of them knocked two tiny resistors out of place but I was able to solder them back in. Putting the new capacitors on was a challenge for me, with my fingers that are as wide as a cuban cigar and my vision isn't what it used to be, but I got it done. Thanks again, because while we can't watch your technique and immediately ape it to success, we can repeatedly watch it until it clicks and practice on scrap boards to get it right.

Best surface mount capacitor work I’ve ever watched.

I loved this video. I'm so glad you're making more content. I sat through the entire live stream. I sat back, strapped on and did it to it.

There are instructions on rondo products website

Thank you for sharing your surgical technics.
Your video on how to make a GBS Control is the reference. It would be great if you could give us your interpretation of GBS Control 2024 with a switchable scart and RCA input.

@RetroG4ME says:

Master class!

@BarretinJapan says:

Big thank you for this! You've given me the confidence to remove smd caps like a champion. Cheers from Japan!

@mattbtv says:

Thank you for helping us preserve these systems for future generations. I'm bookmarking this for when I can dive into my V-Saturn refresh. I need to test this with some junk boards before diving into the real deal.

Thank you Voultar for showing how to use hot air reflow station correctly to remove SMD capactiors. I look forward when I get a unit myself to recap my consoles or work on other electronics
