Must be Chevy but I never had one with the bolt. I just used a dab of new bearing grease. To hold the pushrod up.

@Krashoutjul says:

Do u only gotta do this on a Chevy?

@LiamMurphy-b3g says:

Oh just put it in and bolted it down on my 56 I’m probably going to have to take it off and re do it right?

@markgarry7866 says:

Have 305 Chevy merc. No hole goes through to hold rod up under the fuel filter can. Used a finger. The new pump hoses would not align. Took it off tried to open and clock it. Half the bolts on one side half threaded on the other, bought a seemingly identical pump to the original, installed it had to bring the filter mounts to get the SS lines to attach, new carb, crank, runs on carb spray, after jumper cables and trying a few times, figure new carb linkage and or pickup in tank is clogged, grab nut on battery terminal to disconnect battery, 1000 degree bolt, melt the fingers, darn, I'll try again in a few days. The salmon are starting to run

@GordonCorey-f2i says:

Was a yuger kid when I lerned

@hughiemaceachern5282 says:

I just do it fast

@soldtobediers says:

Or you can take a screw driver and hammer a few indentations on the rod and force it up and place slip the pump lever in and bolt it up. The indentations will smooth out after a second or two after starting the engine.

@halcon2134 says:

If you are doing that, the tank has probably lost its internal coating and is rusting. There is no solution, just change the tank.

@randydickson4104 says:

This is totally wrong my mid 70s 350
Chevy the 9/16 bolt bottomed out
Before touching the rod

@rockycurry3065 says:

And also make sure that your fittings are gonna clear with your hoses! We ran out a couple times had to on both the fuel pump and rotate it so everything clears

@trevonflood1383 says:

I just turned the engine upside down

@hhkk33628 says:

The good old days. Now I had to drop the tank and change my fuel pump. Why do they change everything that works so well? I keep my old truck because it’s going to be the one that will survive if everything goes really stupid some day.

@BernardBouchard-qq9kq says:

People would put in a long bolt and jam the rod and wipe out the fuel pump lobe then say the cam was bad.

@fernando5648 says:

Set your timing to tdc and the rod will be at the highest point . Then you don’t have to fight putting the bolts back in

@Hollywood41642 says:

No bolt.. grease didn't work.

@gethinfinch says:

wait what? welp gotta re do that

@jgcruisers says:

My 66 mercedes has a similar pump
