How To Install Diff Breather Relocator and Swap Differential Fluid. Nissan Titan First Gen

Today we make sure our rear ends are all tidy! The previous owner definitely didn’t touch the rear diff fluid (among many things). If I am going to be towing, then I need to make sure the rear end is in as good condition as possible.

The vent barb should be a 12mm nut. It would be much easier if you had fed the hose down from the removed taillight first. Then route it to the rear differential housing. Just replaced on my 2022 Frontier SV. I have only 25K miles, and the vent valve was clogged to the point that when I removed it, you heard the release of pressure from the differential housing. No leaks around the seals. I got lucky. I guesstimated it was around 5 PSI of release pressure. Z1 Offroad offers a complete kit for relocating the differential vent valve.

Looks like my 2024 Titan Pro4X had this done OEM

I did mine this morning, i decided due to local availability to use a 1/8NPT brass fitting from canadian tire which necessitated a small clean up on the axle housing hole with an npt tap, took about 2 turns to clean up and the fitting went straight in. Changed fluid which was probably overdue (truck is new to me) as the old breather was totally blocked to the point the axle seals had started sweating, so will keep an eye on things to see whether they will need to be changed soon. Will flush diff oil again in 10000km or when i do wheel bearings and seals (whichever comes first)

@SoxCash says:

Where did you buy all the parts?

@edwardfalcon1887 says:

Refill flex bag if you need more fluid easier then pumping

Como puedo adquirir el producto?

@orlandomartinez3533 says:

Buenas alguien sabe donde puedo conseguir ese kit ? Soy de mexico ciudad juarez

@717Chris says:

Did you put a breather kit on the front differential?

@lostinspace280 says:

BARB connector.

@mlvncgndhn9583 says:

is it possible that theres no diff breather? i have 2012 xterra pro 4x.. i went under and couldnt find the diff breather

@katdeville says:

The next time you use squeeze bags, don't cut the tip; use onecfrom an empty bag. That way, you can re-seal the partial one and hopefully not stink up your storage spot.

@katdeville says:

Ry, what is the thing plugging the end of the breather hose?

@dreamlookautodetailingauto3353 says:

Rear differentials are easy. Why aren't there more "front Nissan Titan differential" videos…I don't know?

@WayOutEast1 says:

My Nissan frontier with the M2 26 rear end just like this one the oil was very silvery looking. I don’t have any noise from the rear end no play and my truck has 100,000 miles and I have towed anything with it ever wtf ???

@gmgs31 says:

Thanks, great video!!! A couple of quick questions :

-Why is there so much rust under the vehicle?
-What make/model was that drain pan?

@douglasdever6134 says:

End of breather only needs to go as far up as you will drive and most do not drive in water that envelops the electronics. Also Offroadgorilla has a better kit for less money. Better in a choice of actually a good breather.

@zachowens1412 says:

I'm not sure why everyone refers to diff oil as the worst thing they have ever smelt. I guess working on factory machines for 10 years made me use to that smell.

@erictaylor8099 says:

Hell yeah i have a 2011 saab 93. And titan

@dreel1981 says:

I just did this breather mod to my 2010 nissan titan SE and used a 1/8 BSPT to 1/4 barb fitting since I couldn't find a fitting with a bigger barb size. I hope this helps people looking for the right 1/8 BSPT (British Standard Pipe Thread (28 per inch)) fitting. Don't use 1/8 NPT bc the thread count (27 per inch) and design of the thread is different.

I have a 2016 frontier, 4.0. C200K rear end. A So. cal truck. Bought new. The passenger side seal leaked. The truck has 67,000 miles on it. Not abused or off roaded. Doesn't tow anything either. Kinda disappointing. I'll make my repair and switch the diff breather out. I've had toyota trucks mostly, never had that issue. I decided to get a new 2019 Toy 4×4 SX as a back up in 2019..

@LostInStates says:

Hey Ry. I appreciate your work. Love my "Missing 10mm" t-shirt.
Have you done or considered doing a vid on the evaq canister intake mod that stops it from getting clogged with dust?

@heftex8339 says:

Did the breather mod on an Xterra. Must do for any Xterra, Frontier or Titan. Note that the breather thread on my vehicle was not an NPT. It is some weird European/English thread that is different. Caution so you don’t destroy the axel hole threads. For the differential, one of the cheap Amazon hand pump thingies works well. Differential fluid is super important especially if doing off roaring or towing. Check your differential fluid to make sure all is good.

Excellent presentation, Ry! Thank you!
