It was really simple and easy to secure the harness to the original bolds with a zip tie.
Thanks for sharing, I have a mercury 850 with coils and the wire harness is an absolute mess. The owner before me look like he used liquid tape to cover over all the warning. I have a second motor that was on the boat but the distributor cap went bad and finding one is not easy. So I decided to switch the motor and went to fire it up and was not good spark. 5 volts to the coil. Closer look the wires to and from the stator were completely corroded

What is that red or orange component that your solenoid is mounted on? I'm restoring a Frankenstein 50HP merc that has a 1973 upper and lower unit and the engine looks like a 65-67.. some parts are missing and I've seen that part on a few of these old mercs and wondering what it is.
where can I find the plug for one, I can’t find a mercury box with the plug but I have a red plug johnson box I want to put the 6 pin merc plug on.

Can you give a video showing where exactly each wire went. I can understand the directions from jet unit but I understand better when I can see the parts named 1st hand and trace where each wire goes. If not I understand. Worth a shot.
