This happened to my m276 at 55k miles and had my local euro shop repair it for $1500. 2 years later at 70k miles they said the same issue is happening but I’m out of warranty on the original repair. So I had to shell out another $1500. Are they scamming me? Shouldn’t their original repair have lasted longer than 15k miles? I don’t drive aggressive at all

@seatee4770 says:

Unless the new covers are made of a different material the same thing is gonna happen. Magnesium-aluminum all turn gray from oxidation.

@FreeCoding-ko8vb says:

Any idea the cost of a repair like this?

@lawrenceralph7481 says:

What's this cost?

@SeySan-b2t says:

Just re-sealed the timing upper cover on my M276 ( 2014 ML 350). It was not necessaairy to removed the oil filter housing, just the oil filter and the job was done. i wish MB has just put a paper gasket. thx

Been trying to get covers for 3 months but on back order

@SS-br1kc says:

Do M157 headers line up with M278 ?

@OtotheGHTX says:

What do you torque the bolts on the covers to?

@Toyotatech86 says:

I’ve never had one come back leaking because of the grey coating. And I’ve never had to remove any of the things he’s talking about. I get doing it by the book but I like to cut the customer a break on cost if I can do it without replacing all that and still doing a good clean job.

@nlroel says:

How many hours labour for only the driver side upper timing cover? 3 hours?

@A.Musa76 says:

What happens you take light sandpaper and clean the coating off the original cover and reseal them?

@uptownfragrance6148 says:

I got a 2016 s550 and the fault code coming on saying came shaft adjusters need replaced so I got them replaced and code still saying the same thing now they are saying it might be a timing chain now but the code said camshaft.

@carlrossi says:

The 276.9 engine on a W166 does not need oil filter housing removal as with no doubt many other engines. The factory sealer can be removed with gasket remover, although I suppose to save time, buying $35 new covers might be a wash for a shop.

@ThatS550guy says:

How much does it cost??

@jhonxross5775 says:

Do you need to replace the two covers?

@matteroffact6997 says:

Come to Los Angeles!

@kirilyordanov8074 says:

What do you think of the M276 engine?

@ravshanusmanov7023 says:

How much for a job like this on a Mercedes?

@tabikes69 says:

What is the torque of the screws of the covers??

@ccarlock426 says:

The magnesium out gasing Hydrogen from decomposing makes the sealant break seal. There is many ways to aid is lots less decomposing

@jeffreyhebda6709 says:

Good job Mikey ! Keep up the good work ! Happy Holidays !

@ryannguyen8001 says:

Just resealing the covers is needed. Use the MB cleaner spray to clean the edges thoroughly and the MB gasket maker will do the job. DO NOT USE Permatex or other brand. If there are leakage from the magnets, replace their big o-rings, no need to replace the magnets themselves. No need to replace the oil-filter housing gasket either, unless they are bad.
