Lotus Exige 390 Final Edition – LED Headlight and License Plate Bulbs

Lotus Exige 390 Final Edition – LED Headlight and License Plate Bulbs

Its time to do some upgrades to the Lotus Exige 390 Final Edition, today we are changing the headlight low/dip/driving beams to LEDs (not HIDs) to make it look like the car actually arrived in 2022 after doing some research online.

Overall I’m super happy with the upgrade and it makes the car both easier to drive at night and look brand new. Its really fresh and I can definitely recommend the upgrade, no downsides so far!

I’ve chosen to use Philips Ultinon Pro9000 LED bulbs as recommended by TheLotusForums thread which have a 5 year warranty: https://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/hb3-hb4-philips-ultinon-pro9000-led-headlights-pair.html

You’ll need 85mm diameter cups from Ebay or similar, although I found mine were a bit loose so perhaps 83/84mm diameter cups would work better if you can find them…

And for the license plate bulbs I chose some local Narva branded ones: https://www.narva.com.au/products/18212bl/12v-36mm-festoon-led-globe-6000k–blister-pack-of-1-

Here’s the original TheLotusForums thread as well: https://www.thelotusforums.com/forums/topic/99314-led-headlights/

Hi, thank you for the video !
Whats the difference between going on a H7 or a HB3/4 for this modification ?

Doea it matter which way the light side faces when turned? As in the wire is at the bottom the light is angled to the right, did you do the left and right the same or flip the other 180°?

Great video, Luey, thanks for sharing! Are the sealed rubber cups necessary on the Lotus? How do the LED bulbs cool down? Did you put some vents in the cups? On a previous LED headlight conversion I did on a motorbike, the sealed rubber cups made the LED bulb overheat and fail since the LED fans were recirculating the hot air in the cup. Since it was a motorcycle and the lights are very exposed to dust and dirt, the only way I could use the sealed cup was to use a passive cooling LED bulb (with a copper/stainless steel cooling braid that could stick out of the rubber cup to cool the bulb). I am hoping that on my Elise Cup 250, I can get away with not using perfectly sealed cups.

Hi Luey how are they holding up after 2 years? & estimate on frequency of use?

Great vid, thanks Luey. Have you got a link to the page about 90 degree change for S3s? I’ve fitted 9100 lights but it feels like the beam is pretty low.

Hello Luey`s –
What sizes were the dust caps?

@EugeneTaiwan says:

Just wondering if your used HB3/HB4 bulbs correct ?

@notabenex1 says:

Thank you for the video, just mad the upgrade. Used Ultinon bulbs + and deeper rubber bushings. Only secured the rubber bushings with zipties
