Thank you. That is excellent. My wife bought one for £26. I followed your steps and it now works like new. There was an amazing amount of dust and gunk in the works and it's all nice and clean now. I even learnt to use it.
Thanks so much. You've given me confidence to open my own lotus zz right up to service it rather than scrapping it for parts. And the trick to fix the plate spring is fab. The loose bobbin plate was such a nuisance!

What is the silver thing on the right side of the motor that has wires going to it?
And what is it’s purpose? I recently acquired a lotus t sp and the silver cylindrical piece on right of motor is burnt out. The light switch piece is missing. Also the holder for light has been removed but the wires are still there. I’m assuming someone hot wired it after the silver part burnt out??

May I ask if you have experience fixing the rocker switch for the light, mine has stopped rocking so can't switch the light on. I followed your video to take the back plate off but it seems to be inside a sealed unit. Any tips? Thanks.

Really helpful video thank you! I’ve just been given one of these as a gift for my first machine, and it hasn’t been used for many years – it runs but needs some love to get it going properly – what kind of oil do you recommend please?
I still have one of these machines which I had as a wedding present from my parents in 1972. It has been used intensely over the years with all weights of fabric. Even though I have several other machines now including a couple of treadles, and an electronic Bernina the lotus is still used and has never let me down. Thanks for the info you have given it may come in very useful.
When the machine is put away, the knob on the right hand side below the ‘hand wheel’ should always be set to the 0 mark and the hand wheel turned until it clicks and locks. If you don’t do this the rubber drive wheel on the motor can develop a flat spot and cause a bump when sewing.
