Nice careful work. Would one of those "induction heating coils" help on a long bolt going through that idler pulley?
Cars are complicated, terrifying to work on and expensive.
I had an LS430 and really wanted an LS460 but the horror stories kept me away. I personally loved the styling and they drove really nice. I'm sure brand new they were great, but wouldn;t roll the dice outside of warranty. Went with a newer ES instead, loved it. Basically zero issues.
what about the post refresh 2013+ models?
Did Lexus not have a service campaign to replace the melting instrument panel, and other interior parts? Our old ‘08 Sienna got a new instrument panel for free, under a Toyota service campaign.
I was thankful when that last idler came off (I actually said a prayer!). It makes me wonder why the bolt head was rounded off.
A couple of questions:
1) What is the part number of those hose clamp pliers with the cable? A couple of years ago, I replaced the radiator on our old ‘08 Sienna, and I fought, fought, fought getting two of those radiator hose clamps off, and destroyed them (the tab through the slot design is a giant hassle).
2) That vacuum coolant filling system – does that need an actual vacuum pump, or does it just use shop air (compressed air)?
I should expect the same experience when I do this job on my Gs460??
I respectfully disagree with the opinion that the Lexus LS460 is one of the least reliable Lexus models to own today. In my experience, it is not a bad car at all, especially when compared with similar luxury sedans from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi.
I have been driving my Lexus LS460 for around 10 years, and the car has been maintained regularly at the Lexus dealer. Until today, I have not experienced the major issues that AMD mentioned on his channel. Of course, every car can have problems, especially as it gets older, but proper maintenance makes a big difference.
Also, after 10 years of ownership, if something happens and I need to spend money on repairs, I think that is normal and acceptable for a luxury car of this level. It does not automatically mean the car is unreliable.
In my opinion, the LS460 is still a very solid, comfortable, and well-built luxury car. It may have some known weak points, but compared with many German luxury cars of the same age, I believe it is still a reliable and excellent vehicle to own.
At the same time, I do not think it is fair to compare the LS460 directly to the older LS430. The LS430 was a simpler car and is known for legendary reliability. The LS460 is more advanced, more complex, and has more technology, so naturally it may require more maintenance as it ages.
This is based on my personal ownership experience, not only online reviews.
I’ll take this over a same era BMW or MB any day. In fact i do have one and it’s a dream.

Keep the pulleys, press out old, press in new bearings. waste of money, especially if you're buying those things from the dealer. Keep bearings on hand.
The oil filler cap says 5w-20 or 0w-20. Was this car sold in Alaska?
