A Mistake Most Toyota and Lexus Owners Will Make! Don't Replace it, Fix it Instead

In this video I’ll share with you a mistake that I see many Toyota and Lexus owners make regarding CV Axles.

When CV Axles leak owners tend to replace them instead of fixing them. Did you know that Toyota sells a kit to grease and replace the boots which is the top reason why these axles get replaced to begin with.

How much should this cost to have it done? Thanks

@scottamu7816 says:

I have some additional advice to add here here, respectfully… This method may work ONLY if you buy the OEM Toyota kit and the grease is the exact same formula as the original. Other than that, dissimilar lubricants will either liquify or turn into a hardened mass and ruin the assembly in short time…. For this reason, at our shop, we always removed both the inner and outer joints from the shaft and cleaned ALL of the old grease out before re-lubing and reassembling. And you also need to burp some air out of the boot before tightening the last clamp, or pressure will build when it heats up and could lead to early failure. In my experience… Also, if there are ANY noises or vibrations AT ALL (which is usually what leads people to wonder what’s going on under their vehicle), you will need to replace the axle assembly. Try to find a quality one, not the cheapest!

I’ve done this twice on the wife’s 2000 4 runner but did not know the “turn the axle” trick when popping them out. 306k miles and not a scratch on it. Point of pride that it holds together so easily. Love these videos!

Please keep the 4th gen 4runner vids coming…thanks

I saved thousands with this advice he had mentioned this before in another video.

Excellent video. Question: After you used the boot clamp pliers, you used the special tool to finish clamping. How do we DIYers finish the clamp? What is that tool called?

@johnmiranda1341 says:

what i would love to see is u make video of a 20-21 tundra full transmission flush showing which trans cooler lines to use how to pump the old fluid out and line to pump new fluid in

@davidmacias1263 says:

I love your videos my friend. I wish you were my mechanic. What state are you located in? Keep up the great work! Much respect!

@DannyBroChill says:

thank you for your videos.

@RomanGolubev_A says:

Mechanic replaced boots on my car steering rack ends and fixed them with zip ties telling me that they don't use metal clamps any more. Was he right?

@brotherscoobs says:

I used to repair cv's as a tech from 89-2010. the trend through the mid 90s on up was to get a reman axle and just do a quick swap…it was policy a few shops i worked at…i still prefer to repair even though the only cars i work on now are my own

@Ogizx says:

How much do you charge for a job like this? So hard to find honest mechanics now a days.

@kepler656 says:

Pro tip: you SHOULD get OEM parts, but you SHOULD NOT get them from a dealership. Theres almost always a 50-100% Markup!!!

Wholesale OEM parts are available online and even some places like Amazon or Rockauto will have genuine OEMs.

@JG-ti7id says:

You. Sir. Are. AMAZING!!! tytyty for this content but especially for educating folks to keep their oem axle and have it "refreshed" by a competent person! I hope ppl listen.

@DrS.C-k4u says:

COULD YOU KINDLY DO A VIDEO ON ALL THE ROUTINE MAINTENANCE YOU SHOULD DO FOR HYBRID LEXUS/TOYOTA (Oil change intervals should it still be 5K since most hybrids are running 55% electric on an average, coolant flush? can it be extended since gas engine is no that stressed? eCVT transmission fluid change, differential oil change etc. Since Lexus/Toyota is moving completely to Hybrid Drive Trains, this video will be super helpful.

@davelowman3574 says:

The same applies to starters and alternators. Really not difficult to rebuild and nowadays pretty much all new parts are either counterfeit, bad out of the box defective in some way.
