I ATTEMPTED TO FIX MY ILLEGAL BROKEN RANGE ROVER

In this video, I attempt to diagnose a smoking problem in my L405 Range Rover 3.0 TDV6, only to find out that it has a DPF delete, which is illegal in the UK. So I attempt to rectify that by installing DPF, and doing a DPF clean and a forced regen.

I rebuilt and fixed the engine of this CHEAPEST L405 RANGE ROVER IN THE UK, which I bought from the auction, only to find out it had an engine knocking. I made an entire video series whereby I had to teach myself ENGINE REBUILDING to fix my cheap, broken damaged Range Rover Vogue SE TDV6, which was possibly vandalised.

Well done for doing the right thing! These systems, as problematic as they are, are a legal requirement in the UK, also, don't forget to put the EGR back as removing those is also illegal. People are going to say "it's fine", "I've done loads", "MOT testers don't care", none of these excuses make it right. Poor servicing and ignoring warnings is what kills engines.

i have the same problem black smoke after the second turbo starts kicking fault code is to low pressure on the dpf still don't know what it is help?????

@bjarnieinarsson3472 says:

Blue smoke is engine oil. Valve stem seal most likely.. when you start after while, oil seep down to chamber, ergo blue smoke, but just at startup and later after engine runs on low rpm and then on higher.

watching from kenya

@RenovationMan87 says:

Fair enough, you've done a good job there. Hats off to you.

Like I said, my DPF caused me alot of hassle. Im glad to have managed to reverse the process. It was an interesting watch.

@davmolf3039 says:

Your videos have no beginning and ending with success fix or not I don't understand y you make them

@jospeters7558 says:

You check tis with your hand ,

@jospeters7558 says:

Check the 2 sacs in the hood its blocked the airintake

@saulo_silva says:

Congratulations on cracking the code for the smoke guys. It’s a shame people have to do that with cars but thanks to your determination I’ve learned a bit more today, especially over the importance of inspecting second hands cars carefully.

@baz4x4r says:

Why on earth do you always put the car in off road height. ??

@stevek3036 says:

Nice work – I was not aware about the EGR using DPF cleaned exhaust so good point about why NOT to delete the DPF. also the legality aspect would not sit comfortably with me. At the end of the day there is no need to meddle with these engines – if there is a problem sort it !

@Englishman_in_Ukraine says:

Wrong removing the DPF and mapping out the EGR will make the engine run much cleaner and better for the engine, less oil changes required and much better for short journeys also revs more freely. I did it on mine and was over 190k no problem also many others on YouTube over 220k miles just need to change the oil to 5w40 acea A3/B4. The reason that engine probably went was probably oil starvation under load also didn’t help with oil dilution due to failed regens. Yes it may be illegal but these engines run so clean MOT doesn’t normally even register which is why it passed. Keep doing short journeys where it doesn’t get up to temperature and do a regen and you will end up in the same situation

My flex pipe broke. Is $200+ to replace it at exhaust shop. I can get 2 new cats with pipes for $200 delivered. I don’t have welder. I “should” replace pipes but I don’t have lift.

@paulbateman3001 says:

Well done they are lots of smelly cars on the road with black smoke and its very anoying thanks to you both cheers Paul

@jeroenwohe1447 says:

I have mine also remapped. The car is so much nicer and no future oil dilution aka snapped crankshaft problems.

You don’t know when the dpf delete /remap was done. 28000 miles was the last reading so assume it was 28000 miles so it was done recently.
The nr one 3.0 diesel killer is oil dilution aka snapped crankshaft. there are multiple Land Rover bulletins out there that explains it.
Either you run 5w40 vs 5w30 or do a eve/dpf delete.
Every time you are doing a regen, your oil is getting diluted. The more short drives you do the more regens you will have. And more oil dilution.

@Knowwhatimeans says:

Fahed well done in your detective work and getting to the root of the problem. That second hand dpf wouldn't have been cheap but it was needed and you did the right thing in buying it and installing it!
That GAP diagnostic tool is invaluable.

@bradtottman1425 says:

Hi here in Australia our L322 4.4TDv8 never had DPF….
Normally I would have thought egr Delete and DPF delete would be beneficial for the longtivity of the engine.??.
Yes you have put it back to factory..but I would have left it as it was?

@sambryden7232 says:

Good on you fahed for doing what you believe is right.
But after extensive research I have to agree with some of the comments here, the DPF is going to cause you grief in the long run. Not engine damage, but simply ongoing maintenance, increased turbo lag, higher fuel consumption, the list goes on. These things may take years to develop and may not be noticeable at all and it depends heavily on your driving style.. but they are worth mentioning.….
Great vid

@bruced9319 says:

Mate you are so lucky, having Alex involved to bounce ideas off. Keep up the great content.

@markwall6651 says:

Forget some of the comments on here Fahed. You have 100% done the RIGHT thing. Well investigated and very well corrected. Kudos to
Your. And let’s not forget another excellent video and editing by Alex!!!

@thescot1163 says:

What about the air intakes on the bonnet? apparently there are plastic bags filled with stuff for sound deadening that come loose and block the air intakes.

@KenRobinsonCoach says:

Fahed, restoring these Range Rovers has become your full-time job. Do you plan to sell each car to get your money back? I can't imagine YouTube pays enough to cover all your costs. By the way you are a greaty teacher and your wife Alex is an excellent videographer – each video is a joy to watch.

@KevFixesIt says:

Also I’ve worked on many diesels with a dpf, they still soot up the Egr. Dpf delete makes no difference

@KevFixesIt says:

The best thing you can do is gut the dpf and re map, better fuel economy, better power, no limp mode every 5 minutes. And if there is no weld marks on the dpf you will never fail a MOT
