Just a quick video showing how to find, fix, and confirm the repair of a common evap leak in a jeep. After I found the problem, I was searching around for the part or potential fixes and realized that this is a pretty common problem. The rollover valve had cracked right at the connection to the evap line. I ended up using a roll pin and some epoxy to put it back together. The rollover valve isn’t sold separate from the fuel tank.
The repair seems to be holding up fine and the owner was able to get the jeep smogged. The Innova 5610 CarScan Pro is a very helpful tool as you can see it not only reads and erases codes, but helped me with the drive cycle procedures as well. The codes were P0456 and P0455. The other common reason for having these codes would be a poorly sealing or loose gas cap.
Thanks for watching!

My husband went out after watching the video to see if this could be the issue after he replaced the gas cap and evap sensor with the gas cap warning still remaining on the dash along with the check engine light and sure enough it was cracked by the gas tank. This video was so helpful and just fixed our problem! Thank you so much for sharing.
I have a 08 Jeep wrangler 3.8l and I keep getting a bank one sensor two code and I was wondering if there is a fuse for the O2 sensors and if you know the location
I love your cougar in the garage
My 2010 was broken in the same way. I went right back to the tank wiggled that line and it just fell off. I repaired it the same way with the roll pin epoxy and some jb weld to strengthen it. It drove it for about 30 minutes cleared the codes which only 1 was perm now instead of 3 and then a while later they all cleared. I did notice the evap line was routed really tight so i made some standoffs with zip ties and resecured it. Thanks for the video.
Your biggest mistake was buying a junk jeep, just saying .
Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge & exceptional DIY ideas for all of us to use!
easy answer to issue – leave cali-communismo
thanks for the Video. very, very helpful. Same issue here on a 2008. Questions What is this line for? Can I drive it until I get to fix it? I need to replace the 'shrunken' tube, but how to disconnect the fitting? Tried for an hour…
Does this issue cause Jeep to misfire
I have a 2008 and started getting the gascap and check engine errors…I repaired the small tube that always seems to be cracked. While doing the repair I found the emissions tube that connects to the broken nipple has essentially shrunk over time putting pressure on the nipple. That’s why it breaks. There are recesses 8n the tank where these lines are pressed into but with shrinkage the line pops out. I spliced in an appropriate piece to lengthen the line so it fits in the recess and no longer stresses the nipple.
I don’t have any lights on my 2014 Jeep 3.6L dashboard but I’ve been getting a faint gasoline smell at stops when air is blowing (with recirc off) do you recommend using the same steps for diagnoses?
Is it still okay to drive? What kind of damage can this cause if I continue to drive it?
Apparently that nipple breaks on the gas tank on a lot of Jeeps a friend of ours her Jeep did the same thing found it using my smoker.
I have the same Scanner the INNOVA 5610 v2
Great video! Thanks
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will a evap leak cause a miss ? Thanks!!!
You could just use a cigarret
2010 Jeep JK. Changed my gas cap and that helped. A few times I did not turn it until it clicked after pumping gas which gave me a check engine light.
I got rid of my permanent code by disconnecting my battery and tying the cables together to get rid of all residual power in the systems. Then I took out my TIPM, removed all fuses and relays and cleaned all contacts on the TIPM and fuse leads. After that I sprayed contact cleaner into each contact on the TIPM. Then I put dielectrical grease on the TIPM connectors when putting it all back together.
