Another issue you didn't cover is that on the fuse box only one side of each contact pair is connected. I removed the fuse panel and soldered wire joining links so that when you put the fuse in, it is connected on both of the brass fingers that hold the fuse in place.

My 87 XJS has a fuse box with blade fuses, would this mean that it was replaced ? Or did some models come with blade fuses ?
This might be a silly question, but relating to the fuse conversion @10:10 do i still need to convert if I live in the UK now and I am looking at fuses or do we still do things the same way? or have we chnaged to how the rest of the world does it?

Good video. Your site has saved my bacon over and over. I blew a dash light fuse tonight; checked the fuse box and there it was; a blown fuse. I replaced it with one of my spares. Now I have to buy a replacement (for my replacement) and I'm on the road again.
My 1989 XJS convertible had an engine temp gauge that did not work properly when I bought the car. As soon as I started it, the gauge would go to hot immed. Long story short, I found that the cluster had been removed and the flimsey tabs had been bent out of the way when they put the cluster back in. After jirry rigging the connection, and putting the cluster back in I have NO POWER to anything. No lights etc. and no ignition. Is there a Main switch/fuse/relay ?

Good video. I checked my fuses on my early series 2 xj12 just after your video was posted and noticed my fusebox had melted at the third fuse from the right. I want to replce the whole box with a modern more sturdy box and modern car fuses.
Is this do-able? On my old rover P6 v8 the electrics were so short fitted that it was nearly impossible. By the way the rover p6 has the same plastic melting problem as the jag. Rubbish quality.

Adam, Some of the better videos I've seen – great job. I've got an '89 XJ-S Convertible and just had to pull heater core for rebuild since I cannot find a new one. Do you have vids on this job? I waited far too long to tackle this -living with slight coolant smell for a while – and now have blower prob. I read on Jag Lovers that coolant leak can damage blower relays that are below? How about vid on getting the console out?
Hello Adam, nice video indeed. I am the happy owner of a1996 XJS convertible and would like to access to the fuse box (passenger side for a LHD). I cannot manage… I do not want to damage something and I do not see any screw or clip, there is only the A/C sensor in the middle of the panel (a black plastic knob with holes). Any idea or clue about how I could access to the fuses box which is behind this panel ? Thank to every body for help…

Can you help me? I was changing the warning lights to LED type bulb. I turned on the ignition to make sure they work but I accidentally touched the back part of the warning lights unit to ground and it sparked… From That point on, the hand break, battery warning lights don't turn on anymore …
Also, the alternator is not charging. Is there a fuse for the warning lights or for the alternator ??
