To Disconnect: Remove the negative (black) terminal first, followed by the positive (red) terminal. To Reconnect: Connect the positive (red) terminal first, followed by the negative (black) terminal. Why This Order Matters: Safety First: The negative terminal connects directly to the car's metal chassis (ground). If your wrench accidentally touches the chassis while removing the negative terminal, nothing happens. Preventing Sparks: If you disconnect the positive terminal first and your metal tool touches the chassis while the negative is still connected, you will create a short circuit, resulting in a dangerous spark or electrical arc.

Not true on all newer model cars, especially if they have that stupid BMS system where you have to reset it by a computer, or blink the lights several times and push the brake pedal a few times, or you can let it set for 8 hours without starting the engine and it resets itself. That is on the newer Ford trucks and cars, and the really expensive cars is even more if a hassle… they build them now days to discourage the average Joe from attempting to do anything but checking the oil, and maybe changing the air filter. It's getting to be a sad sad world…
I watched another car battery installation video do something I’ve never seen before but it makes sense. He had one of those portable charging things, and he had the positive cable of the portable charger connected to the positive cable so that when he removed the cable from the old battery, it maintained all of the car’s memory settings otherwise you’re gonna lose those by completely disconnecting the battery from any power source. I would imagine they do this sort of thing at some of the quality dealers.
