Hyundai Sonata – Parts Cannon Fail EVAP Leak

Hyundai Sonata – Parts Cannon Fail EVAP Leak

In this video I have a look at a customer’s 2011 Hyundai Sonata that has the infamous glowing check engine light with codes for an EVAP leak. The customer tried tossing a few parts at it but none of them stuck so now we have to see what’s really wrong with it so he can get it fixed.
-Enjoy!

Advantages of smoke over soapy water?

@mikechiodetti4482 says:

The smoker for the win! Had a Red Line smoker at work years ago, nice machine.
The 2003, 2004 Ford F series gas engine trucks had that big plastic nut on the tank.
Nice testing Mr. O. Nice to see Mrs. O and Luna too.

I have a 2011 Sonata with 158k miles on it. Replaced engine at 105k by Hyundai. I replaced the entire evap system myself at around 100k. No issues since.

Like to see you fix this one and can you use a plastic lock ring instead of the metal one? is the lock ring universal enough that you can use or get one even one from GM or Chrysler? Just wondering about that thank you

@larrymestas says:

Autozone said I needed a wiper motor. When I changed a battery in a Ford Escape SE, failure to attachment the second cow to the frame. Wiper would not work. When home an install the 2 cow and clips and to the frame. Wipers worked after that. Great video Eric O 19:37

@robbiek5oh says:

Ford expedition and fusion have a plastic tank, pump, and treaded lock ring; neither have an access panel – must drop tank to change pump

@theomurphyross8338 says:

Fiat professional (also known as RAM Promaster) use the plastic lock rings.
However they split just on their own.
All the pain of lining up. But no rust or crust

Access panels seem nice until you're crawled into the deepest depths in the trunk of a Buick and realize you have no vebtilation in there lol

@gregorythomas333 says:

There were several CAN communication error codes in the fault report…the customer may want to have you diagnose those while you have the car in the shop.

@prevost8686 says:

Some O.E. parts have become so crappy that Dorman is an upgrade. That’s a pretty sad testament to new car quality but that’s where we are.

@stevecampanale8402 says:

Hands down the most common leak on these Asian cars. By the way have you ever had one leak but no smoke anywhere? The soapy water never lies.

@johnhufnagel says:

00's chrylser fanatic here… LOVE and HATE the plastic lock ring, but you're right once you get it lined up after cursing for 10 minutes it's glorious.

@dday8321 says:

Never had a car with an access door, always had to drop the tank (which is a pain ). Walked around and didn't even acknowledge that SWEET Mustang – my favorite car ever. 🙂
