Looked like heck of an oil leak, if so pretty soon it'll destroy the new one
As soon as I saw the alternator, I could see why it failed. The new one you just put in will most likely fail prematurely due to oil leaking on it. I hope you let her know about the oil leak so she doesn't blame you when it fails.
