How we fix a stripped drain plug without changing the oil pan #BMW #X5 #mechanic #diy #fyp

Replacing an oil pan on a BMW X5 isn’t cheap since you have to drop a lot of things from under the car. This way can save the customer a lot of money.

This was the first time this car has been in our shop and we could tell the pan was stripped from taking it out.

Very smart and functional

@ScottWilly8969 says:

$3500 for an oil pan get the fuck ohtta here

@trapperarmstrong9724 says:

If you think putting pressurized air into an engine that's most likely 10 times the pressure of normal crankcase pressure you're not to bright. All the seals in the engine are going to be leaking heavily now because everyone thinks they're so much smarter than everyone else by taking shortcuts. Replace the oil pan like it's supposed to be done correctly the first time and stop taking the car to the idiot that is doing the oil changes that are damaging the pan.

@___Bruh__ says:

Make sure you regulate the air pressure. Some shops have 110 psi and you can blow out some shit with that

@ITzLegit91 says:

As a person that does oil changing for a shop, I hate European cars

@MichaelC-g7e says:

It's disgusting that a simple oil pan replace costs 3500…

That's some shit you used to do in your driveway on a Saturday morning.

@D1337ThisGuy says:

1) Remove the oil pan
2) JB weld the original drain plug shut
3) Complete the oil change without installing a new plug. (Leave tapping a new drain plug port for the next tech).
4) Don't tell the customer. Everyone likes surprises.

@PhunkBustA says:

mechanics are so weird brug like u were there with a marker, why not jsut write down the torque setting next to the bolt so the next dimwin who does it up (hopefully) doesnt tighten it back up to 1000Nm

@jackcaley-neal1892 says:

Legit next time catch that oil you run through it to see if there's any shavings in it. I'd be surprised if there were any. Great job.

@patgraeme775 says:

Rick and the boss reference.. I approve

@grease_monkey3535 says:

Should have replaced it, guarantee the oil pan gasket was leaking anyway

@andrewmasonwerdna says:

Bro 3600 bucks, I can rebuild half my dodge for that…..

@cmanweavster8357 says:

3500 to replace an oil pan?!!! No way

@goodgat266 says:

Oil pan is 100$

@E55W211 says:

Why in the absolute fuck would you use a torx bit for an oil drain plug? Brain.exe not found

@ПьерЖэбер says:

говнодел считает, что он хороший работник. Печально смотреть, как уродуют бмв

@reggfelkfarb7333 says:

Unfortunately, that's the last time that plug will be properly torqued.

@1989-v7o says:

You could use grease on the thread chaser to keep the shavings out
