This works on many BMW cars from 2006 on like the e90, e91, e92, e60, etc. The IBS or Intellengent battery sensor monitors the battery and provides charging instruction to the alternator based on the usage and overall life of the battery. And it works too — my OEM battery lasted 9 years! However this component is fragile and in my case got killed by an over voltage failure of the alternator. It’s a quick and easy replacement process. I got mine from eBay by matching the part numbers.
If you want a new OEM replacement (but cheaper than the dealer), you can get it here: https://amzn.to/2FvjecB

So my e91 all of a sudden began to drop RPM whenever I put it in R or D (automatic) and hold brake pedal. It kind of tries to force itself to drive through braking. But since im holding brake pedal the RPM drop untill it eventually stalls. But other than that, it drives flawlessly. I just cant be stationary at a red light or an intersection while in D. So I took it to diagnostics and I got a 4BE2 fault code which is this IBS. Thats the only thing that I got. So am I freaking out way too soon. Can it simply be just replacing this?
Anyone know where the red and blue wire connects to looks like it’s going to the bottom of the battwry
The wire you had at 3:00 came from where? I have a small wire leading off the Positive wire harness, and one small wire leading off the IBS. But, they don't plug into each other. Everything else is "ok". For now.
What are the signals of failure? My 135i displays says charging malfunction
Where do you recommend to get the new IBS?
That blue connector will most definitely cause problems if you leave it unplugged. On a 335i atleast
How did the new IBS know about the age and condition of the existing battery?
Did you have to use a scan tool to do anything such as reguster the new IVS after installation?
My MAF went utterly batshit insane without that IBS connector plugged in. This video helped me ID where i forgot to plug it back in after a battery swap. Thanks for this!!
I have same issue wi5h my EU E90 no crank no start…want to check the ibs…but on my -battery terminal there is nothing….just a plain cable going to a ground spot on the chassis?
I couldn't really see, it was a bit dark. I disconnected the blue it cranks now but won't start.
