Multi-Purpose Camera Replacement – Acura/Honda Malfunction – DIY

Multi-Purpose Camera Replacement – Acura/Honda Malfunction – DIY

I show you how to replace the multi-purpose camera when it malfunctions in your Honda or Acura. I’m frustrated that the dealer was going to charge me $1,800 for a part that I found on eBay for a hundred bucks and replaced myself in 10 minutes.

I’m using my wife ‘s 2019 Acura RDX, but it is a similar process for other Acura and Honda models.

Here are results other people have mentioned in the comments. All are better than the dealer:
– camera from a junkyard for $150 installed on the spot and it was from the same model so it didn’t need calibration
– camera new for $800 installed by themselves with $350 to get it calibrated
– let me know your details on the comments…

My 17 MDX has similar problem but LKAS is green still. Collision Mitigation and Road Departure light up with ACC flashing but LKAS is green and still functional. The camera module gets SUPER hot in only a few minutes. Battery tests good.

Thanks man, I’m going to give this a try. This was very helpful!

Side note: windshield glass repair shops can install and recalibrate for about $150-$250. I might have them install my camera module.

I just replace the thermal paste. I have a Honda Civic hatchback 2019.

Thanks, dude! Any chance do you know the dtc you were getting? My cousin 19 hrv is getting u3000-49 which says its the camera or radar system. Any idea on how i could test to see which one it is?

Genesis dealer quoted $1200 for the camera and $1600 for labor. This looks like a 1 hour job max, and I know the dealer's labor rate isn't $1600/hr. This looks like a rampant scam being run in the automotive service industry that the FTC needs to be looking into.

@SqueedManDan would just
replacement of camera remove the lights on the dash.

@logun1970 says:

Did you recalibrate the camera?

Hi,

I have been dealing with the same problem with my Honda Accord Sport 2017. That being said, I have been getting the same errors, and the error code is U3000-49 (Multipurpose Camera in the Winshield). Do you know by chance where I can find this camera? The Dealership gave me a ridiculous price so I would like to try to change that part by myself so I can save money.

I would appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance!!

Thank you!!! Having this same problem. Dealership wants $2100! Crazy. Definitely appreciate you taking time to make this video.

Took your advice on my wife’s 2016 MDX. Drove to the junk yard in the Acura looking for a 2016 replacement camera. LSH found one and tested it in the parking lot before I left the junk yard. Works great. Thanks for this video.

Saved $2100 from the stealership by DIY. $120 eBay. $175 dealership calibration. Mine was Acura ILX and looked different, but the steps were all the same.

Amazing post, I have the same issue on my 2016 mdx, this is driving crazy, I even bought a new battery fan and check the connectors to make sure they are getting power but I never hear the fan working like before, is summer and hot, also I put my finger inside to feel if this is moving and nothing, the crazy think is that this problem started with an almost dead battery, last time I used it all the christmas light in the dashboard came out, then install the new one and still havind the same problem.I did go to the dealer and just to diagnose it was 225$, they want 1050 for the camera and 500 labor, insane
