Volvo XC90 Battery Replacement – The Battery Shop

The 12 volt battery in this 2018 Volvo XC90 is located in the left rear quarter panel. Although this video may provide you with the basic procedures, we recommend that you check with the vehicle manufacture’s step by step procedures found in service/repair manuals for the vehicle you are working on.

The use of a memory saving procedure will keep the vehicle’s computers memory’s alive during the battery replacement procedure. Refering to our Memory Saving video will provide you with various memory saving procedures that can be used according to vehicle manufacturer’s requirements. https://youtu.be/vSP3ShcaFgQ

Some late model vehicles must have the 12 volt battery registered with the vehicle’s Battery Control Module or Computer after replacement. See these videos on Battery registration and coding for more details on the procedures at https://youtu.be/TGKohKZHzr0 & https://youtu.be/cxOK_DczRGg

Always wear safety glasses and gloves when working with or near batteries.

Thanks a lot, very helpful

Thanks for a good diy , however on my XC90 2017, there’s no battery strap nor that hold down bracket arrangement , just the small bracket at the bottom of the battery.
I replaced my OEM 80 amp h7 with an 95 amp h8 size which needed me to go the dealer and spent $100 for the additional brackets and strap or leave battery loose in the battery compartment (not very safe).
Some Volvo’s I guess come with different batteries and mounting configurations.

JohninRosc says:

Excellent video – many thanks. I've been quoted £240 to replace the battery by a Volvo dealer and I know I can buy one for £90!

Elizabeth Sullivan says:

Very helpful video – I have a question about the latch that closes the hatch above the battery. I can't figure out how to put it back together (the 2 parts are not connected – maybe that means the latch is broken?). I just want to close and latch the compartment. Part # of latch is 39832440.

The cargo battery side panel doesn't fit at all, it stands-out pretty lot. Anybody knows how to put it back properly or fix it?

thx you grandpa….really helpful.. from South Korean Xc90 owner..

MrRozetkaus says:

Can I use battery maintainer (4 amp AGM Viking) for this project to save computer memory?

Murat Akkemik says:

Good Job, but I would like to see support battery change too. I have a problem with mine but I could not find any information and part number as well (for new battery)

Timothy Garza says:

If I test the battery from the poles under the hood, am I testing the starter battery, support battery, or both? I am getting 13%healthy, 22%charge, 320CCA, 9.35m ohms from there, indicating a replacement is needed.

Jean Petro says:

I have 2016 xc90, do you know where I can get the service repair manual for it ? Please and thanks

Gregory Thom says:

Thank you so much! I think you just saved me a few hundred bucks! Just a word of advice to anyone planning to try this, when tightening the connection to the positive battery terminal DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN! I did one too many cranks and the bolt snapped. I couldn’t find a replacement, Volvo wanted to charge me $180 to replace that entire fuse assembly. I had to get creative but ultimately it is working! Thanks again!

Guillermo Arbitelli says:

wau, nothing simple

Arthur says:

Thanks for not playing death metal music in the background like every other degenerate out there. Very concise, almost peaceful video. Thanks for teaching.

Michael Filimon says:

OK…so if the battery is dead, how did you open the hatch back since it is electronic

James Dean says:

very helpful information, great thanks
