Volvo error code P0410 fix, SAS modification, 850, S70, V70, XC70, etc. – VOTD

SAS Modification: 60 to 90 minutes ($5 / $520 / $625)

In this video I show you how to do a modification to the car to clear the CEL error code P0410. This fix is for Volvo 850, S70, V70, XC70, C70, V70R, etc.

You need a 200v-1A Silicon Diode.

Clayton Quinnell says:

Did this repair today, I chose to solder the Diode in the ECU.
I completely removed the SAS pump, because 3 of the 4 mounting bolts were broken.
Should I worry about plugging either of the hoses?

Michele Redmond-Cummings says:

he just undone the pump. the check engine light is still coming on

Michele Redmond-Cummings says:

I did the modification using the diode. Each time the car is started it still displays the P0410 code

Carmicha3l says:

Hey I just replaced the Alternator on my S70 T5 and I have the P0410 code. Just a few weeks ago I was experiencing rough idle and the car stalled idle once and I assumed that was the fault of the alternator. I cleaned the MAF sensor but I don't think that helped and I will have to drive the car a bit more to see if the rough idle persists. What is your take?

Detriuch Calhoun says:

Ok jump didnt work but i went from park to drive to park a few times and it started. So it must be the neutral safety switch!!. My service light stays on still for about 2 minutes and goes off. is this normal even after you do the ecu mod? the sas connector is unplugged

Detriuch Calhoun says:

Robert I need you're help greatly. I can't figure out why my car won't start. I pulled the battery out to put in a new hood release cable and to do this SAS ecu solder mod. put the battery back in and I get nothing. all gauges work but it just clicks when I try to start it like the battery is dead but it's showing 12+volts. I've even changed out the starter relay. any ideas?

VisualAudio7 says:

Started giving a P0410 code a couple days after replacing complete PCV system. Any relationship I wonder? I will give this video a try. Thanks Robert.

Dana Kelley says:

Awesome to know. dang it! just can't get away with it. Gotta replace the unit. California is definitely a state that requires this. any of you who do this and live here? well… expect to put it back together with a working unit before your next smog test. Thanks Robert! would enjoy picking your brain, but im sure so would 60,000 other Volvo people. c ya!

Jeremy Crooks says:

Again Robert nails it! Made me nervous doing brain surgery, cutting into the wires so close to the computer…I didn't have the right diode, but I found one on an old pc board and it was a 400V, but it worked fine. Thank you!!!

Paul Alan says:

Hi Robert, I'm going to go ahead and replace this part instead of bypassing; do you have a step-by-step video of doing this for a 1998 S70 Volvo?

Domineco Spinella says:

I unplugged all 3 plugs in different sequences and still nothing. I did the ecu

Domineco Spinella says:

p0410 and I have

Domineco Spinella says:

did not work on my 97 850 glt

Jeff Schmidt says:

Hello Robert, I see you are working on a '97 T5, is this also applicable to a 2000 S 70 ?

ex.cxflyr says:

what does the mod do? just bypass the pump w/o a fault code?

Neighbor Bob says:

Hi Robert my 1998 Volvo S 70 T5 is throwing a secondary air injection system code which I assume is what your talking about here? Anyway I live in Missouri with no smog testing. Will just leaving it alone effect my performance, or do anything else detrimental to my car, other than produce a bit more smog? Thanks in advance for any information you can provide me………. Bob

Marvin THOMPSON says:

can you make a video on the gadgets and gauges that you added to your black Volvo?

bugeye02707 says:

Mod works for getting a smog, did the mod on 98 t5 ecu and pass smog no problem.

ryanmcgrim says:

hey Robert, hope all is well man! youve helped me out of more jams than I can count, but I'm stumped. pulled a p0410 code that's causing me to fail inspection. saw this video and purchased a diode. soldered it into pin 32 and 37 in the ecu. cleared code and it didn't have any effect… still have CEL.(disconnected power to pump too) thought I must have burned the diode out so bought another one. soldered that one in, and still got p0410 code coming up after clearing codes. only have another week to figure this out or I lose my ability to get inspected again. any ideas? it's a 96 850 NA. some folks online say solder to pin 38 not 37. heard of that before
?

BlastReadingSeries says:

Robert, we get a thump, thump, thump. whirr, sound, like a fan coming from right behind the steering wheel and immediately after a P0455 turns on. Is this somewhat related to the air pump? It's gotta be right? What else would make that kind of noise? I'm gonna give this a go and see if it stops that. If it does, man, would that be sweet!

Xavier Basabe says:

Hi Robert, thanks for these helpful videos. I recently replaced my Sas pump on a 98 v70 xc. My check engine light came on two days later. I'm still getting p0413 and p0410 codes. Is there anything else I should replace or look for?

alena floyd says:

will this code make my car run like crap and stall out if i hit the gas pedal much?

Endirrwiggins Endirrwiggins says:

I'm going to give it a try. Pin 32-37 current in same direction. I'll let you know the outcome.

Thomas Ferreolus says:

I found that Auto Zone, here near Chicago, sells the MAS sensor for about $127.00 for the S70, 1998.

Thomas Ferreolus says:

You the Man! Thanks for the help with trouble shooting my S70. Deduced the MAS isn't working right by unplugging and then driving it around, problem gone. Albeit this being the case, could that also trip a P0410 code?

or could I be a fuse
