Channel locks and aluminum cloths line good points.
Before I unbolt the caliper I always push the brake pads back into the
caliper. I use a large screwdriver or pry bar. You had to use muscle to get
the caliper off the rotor. My way you would not have to. Plus you are ready
to put new pads on the car without using some method to push the caliper
brake cylinders back in.
Any chance you could put the 2nd half of the job back up.. turns out that
youtube took it down for copy right..is it because you are listening to
music? or was there some kind of overdub? I would like to tackle this job,
since it’s a mad fortune to get done at the shop. Thanks for posting this!!
What the hell are you listening to????
What or who are you listening to?
Although this video was slightly helpful, I think you could have made it a
lot better. You could have been explaining what you are doing while you are
doing it, and you could have maybe tried to do it a little faster. it took
you 10 minutes to get the calliper off and 30 secconds to take the rotor
off. I don’t think I could sit through 2 hours of you walking off camera
trying to change out a wheel bearing that should only really take an hour
if you are good.
Thanks. The way you mentioned is the tried and true way. The video is a bit
confusing there. I wasn’t trying to muscle the caliper off the rotor, but
instead trying to force the piston back into the caliper by pulling the
caliper against the rotor. That didn’t work so I resorted to the huge
channel locks to do what I couldn’t do by hand. I’m always a bit leery of
shoving a screwdriver or pry bar under the pads, particularly if I hope to
reuse the pads. Probably I’m being overly cautious…
