I like to pack the back of the seal with grease if you're going to hammer it in, only to retain the spring. It is possible for the spring to fall out the back after hitting the seal in.
I'm about to do this, but to replace the auto transmission pump seal. Of course will do the engine rear main (volvo seal of course). 1998 S70 non-turbo.
I replaced my rear main seal when I did a manual swap…I left my motor in the car, suspended by an engine brace from harbor freight, then removed just the subframe. The automatic came out easy, but man, it was heavy! At least now with the engine removed you can clean in all up and fix everything else.
Any tip or things to watch for with the Volvo XC90 2004-2009.
