thank you so much for this thorough walkthrough. I am working on a c30 t5 with a blown head gasket and this video gave me the confidence to tackle it myself. I will be sure to send you a tip after I successfully complete the task Question tho, you have the cams pulled, then when reinstalling you have them locked on the back with that cam lock tool. Afterward you mention notches being off?
I am concerned about messing up the timing. If I realign the factory marks notch per notch (on the crank and both cams), then use a cam gear locker (like your blue one from ipd) to put the belt back on will that work? Is there something you did when putting the cams back on with the cam shaft locker that you knew they were properly in place to know the marks were off? my Volvo has only one set of marks, so in theory, if I don't pull the cam gear I can realign with factory notches?
Is there a seal that goes in the rear of the camshafts? Or is it just those plugs? I order a victor head set and it only cam with the 2 front seals. And it only came with 1 cam actuator seal(the little green one.) Thanks Robert
Hey Robert. Love your videos. I've got a 2007 s40 t5 that had to have the head fixed I'm trying to figure out how to install the cam sprockets. Can u point me in the right direction? Thank u
Hi when you set the head in you did a 20 and 60 torque specs, is that the only torque specs for that volvo cylinder head. Thanks
Robert i am considering buying a 2005 s40 for 1200. Is that a good price?
I love your videos I was able to change my 94 850 turbo starter by watching your videos. So I trust you and my capabilities on completing the task.
Just wondering if that is a good buy or not thanks Robert, hope all is well my friend.
Thank you very much! Great video!!
The 2013 s60 im working on has numbers stamped on the drivers side head like the first head you got from the company. The extra oil port on my head is for the vacuum pump unit that is turned by the exhaust camshaft. Great work, your first videos on the c30 helped me when I started the head rebuild on my car, thanks again
I HAD 2 REPLACE MY OIL PUMP AFTER A MAKE-SHIFT MECHANIC BROKE OFF THE PARTING LUG TRYNA CRANK THE ENGINE WITH A WRENCH ATTACHED IN ORDER TO LOOSEN THE TIMING GEAR(S)
I gotta say great dedication to Volvo vehicles on your behalf, i recently bought a 96 850 turbo and it needed some tlc, everything i have learned was from your videos, great work my friend!
id just tapped that hole and put a bolt in the hole …id not redone that job as they really suck to to ! hours bent at a 45 degree angle makes the back soft and not feel good …..
Cool repair. What was the issue with the A/C?
Aren't those two "sensors" on the head near the cam gear units on the passenger side of the head actually variable valve timing controls? With the position sensors at the opposite end of the head?
Great video appreciate the effort you are helping alot of people.
Which is easiest to work on? 850 T5, V70 T5 (mark 1) or V50 T5?
I've got the first two (chronic addiction) but I do like the look of those V50's!
I seem to recall the lifter adjustment is with various thickness shims.
