Special tool:
In this video I helped a viewer replace the ball joint on his wife’s 2006 Volvo XC90. This process should be the same on all of the P2 cars, S60, V70, XC70, etc.

Thank you robert! I found you on facebook in the volvo club of north america and commented there. Around the roundabouts i can feel twitching in the wheel and was curious if it was ball joints. This video confirmed it 🙂 Thanks again

Hi there
I have two things to ask
I have a 1996 Volvo 850 t5 20 valve sedan
1. The CD player in the trunk won't come out, we checked if the cable is maybe disconnected in the radio unit, it isn't
2. The AC won't blow out cold air even though we refilled the ac many times
Please advise
Cheers

From my experience doing this, it's definitely a lot easier in the long run to just take the knuckle off and replace the ball joint like that. Ends up being a lot more frustrating trying to do it like this. It's definitely doable though if you're a glutton for punishment.

You are a super good guy Robert!
And I'm so glad you jumped on a xc90 cuz I got one from an auction!

Did this job on my S60 2 weeks ago, together with new struts and control arms. Definitely took me longer than 2 hours LOL but I'm a newbie at DIY'ing car repairs and maintenance
I have marked every bolt and I have been checking everything like 3 times a week just to make sure I've done a proper job, so far so good

Ive done ball joints on P2 cars many many times, I have the special CTA tool and I love it to put them in, As for getting them out, I usually take a sledgehammer and whack it off because i usually just go ahead and take the entire knuckle assembly off
