How To Remove And Replace The Cabin Air Filter On A Volvo P3 (XC60, S60, V60, & More)

►The cabin air filter might seem like an insignificant part of your car, but it plays a huge role in making sure your Volvo P3 is being supplied fresh air to the cabin. Due to exhaust gases coming from the vehicle in front, the air at the center of the roadway is up to six times more polluted than at the side of the road. With the innovative CareMetix cabin filter, the vehicle cabin remains almost entirely free of fine particulates, tire debris, brake dust, and exhaust gases. The S5 broadband technology also protects against micro-particulates and diesel soot—all of which helps to preserve the sensitive components in the HVAC system from premature wear.

There may be more steps than a traditional cabin filter replacement in this DIY, but our Volvo Catalog Manager, Adam Goral, is here to walk you through the steps needed. While he’s at it, he goes through some tricks along the way like removing the ECU housing and some fuse boxes to allow for easier access during the job.

Alexander Martin Causey says:

My XC60 isn't this hard. I did it without removing the glovebox, there's a little black box in the way that sits in a notch. Up and away, no tools needed. Then open the flap and replace the filter. It's kind of tight, but I had no issues. Hope this helps!

Chris Browne says:

what year is this video for?

J Alan says:

Glovebox removal instructions don't work on my 2015.5 XC70. Glovebox absolutely won't be pulled out following these directions.

Georgios Giotopoulos says:

Really helpfull ! i struggled a lot last time with the fuse box. Thanks !!

Ramon A H says:

my god… I changed a p80 (1998 V70-my fist Volvo) once 6 years ago and felt accomplished hahaha. Now for a 2011 XC60, with this video I'll damn well better get it right

FC says:

Amazing video and well explained. Is it pretty much the same for a 2008 XC60? Thanks

Michael Douglas says:

All you gotta do is remove the lower cover beneath the filter assembly itself not the whole damn. Glove box

The most complicated cabin filter swap ever

I've got a 2018 V60 Cross Country. I think I'll sell the car first, and let the new owner change it. Man, it's like open heart surgery on a Transformer!

Dave B says:

I was able to do this one myself following your steps. Thank you 🙂

Eddie U. says:

Sorry, but you don't need to take that much stuff apart as you did for cabin filter, to replace take me around 15min.

Suthas Uamchan says:

Thank you for sharing how work on it.
I plan to do on my V60 2014 as well.
I think i will spend 1-2 hour .
I did on my Honda it took me only 5 mins.
Volvo should learn from Japanese how to make it easy for maintenance.

TurboTonyG says:

What makes this the best available filter on the market? Also, I didn’t catch it’s full name but I saw it was made by Meyle

Alexander Zgura says:

what in the gods and goddesses names were Volvo engineers thinking when they came up with this placement for the cabin filter? Not sure if I want to do this much work for cleaner air. This is insane.

Jeff L says:

Flat rate does not work this way lol

Goddytje says:

u can just remove the first panel and then the side panel , remove the fuse box and plenty of room to get it out , u dont need to remove the glove box etc

andikoo82 says:

After this I'll never complain again about changing the cabin filter in the P2 platform… Great job!

slowgls says:

Good job. Need to change mine soon. Thanks for the effort.
