Oliver Smith says:

My fan hasn’t worked for years. Now I’m on my way to a fix.

Ashley OSullivan says:

Sorry Robert this may be a silly question, your note in the video states to loosen the cam sprocket before aligning the cam tool. Please could you clarify what you mean by cam sprocket? Is it the torx screws holding the sprockets on the front of the engine (tooth sprockets that turn the timing belt)? Thought I needed the locking tool on before I touched these? Everything else is super clear.

Naber says:

Someone's gotta make a technical drawing of it

matt mckenzie says:

There's a piece that has a bolt though it when you take the cam sensor cover off is it ok to remove that

Joshua Millen says:

How do you know which one is off timing? (intake or exhaust) Or does it matter?
Or is it just important that they line up with the tool?

Also, thank you for the video. I just ordered the tool, wish I would have known before starting the job.

Quincy Robertson says:

So if I use this tool I won't have to worry about setting the timing?

Γιάννης Παπαγεωργιου says:

Hi Robert, thank you for that great video.
Could you please confirm that for the timming, the locking slot of the income camshaft has to be over the camshaft center and the exhaust one has to be over the center of the camshaft??

Or am I making mistake and corect allying is opposite way.???

Thank you in advance.

Droid777 says:

Torque specs for bolt???!

Flying Karapet says:

That's what I thought. The slots on the and of the cams would have to be horizontal flat. But when I look at The Volvo VIDA software it shows me the cam slots are pointing down at 45 degrees towards the crankshaft. Maybe that's for assembly but wouldn't assembling it misaligned cause it to lock up against the pistons, being an interference engine and all.

k smith says:

Robert, I have a 2004 XC90 2.5. Will this cam lock work when changing crankshaft seal because I cant seem to find one that locks onto the gears on front. Everything I have done to my volvo's I have pretty much learned from you…You Da Man!

Matt says:

Hey Robert, I know this is an old video but you seem to be pretty great with replying to everyone who has questions. It's a big reason I like your channel so much and recommend it to others as often as I can.

I'm a young DIY'er, I dont come from a wealthy family so it's necessary for me to fix my own vehicle. I have recently purchased an 05 S80 2.5T for $700 that I've been fixing up, fluids, filters, hoses, plugs, coils, serp belt & tensioner. T-belt has records of being serviced at scheduled service time, currently 60,000 miles or so on this one.

I found an oil leak under my timing cover that got slightly worse after switching to fully synthetic, it's not dripping on the ground at all. But it is getting on the timing belt, and I cant have that because it's already halfway thru its service life. I understand that the PCV system in volvos get clogged up and blow cam seals and crank seals. I replaced the oil trap to valve/cam cover pcv hose because it was cracked and brittle, and performed the glove test. My engine holds slight vacuum at idle with a warm engine, so I'm hopefully all good there.

What I need help with is finding out which seals are leaking, and how to get myself one of these tools without going broke. Just looking for some advice here, I love this car but maybe I cant afford to own it. Any help would be appreciated, thank you Robert. I'm willing to learn anything.
