Thanks for the video. I went straight to the cut off method. Very easy!

michaelovitch says:

Thanks ! : )

hp11208 says:

nice methods, but you dont talk at all in your vids why lol.

racer83racing says:

i just left mine on the shaft and put some grease in, sure the bearing was
dry but not damaged, it sounds like a very worn transmission when it needs
grease LOL

hp11208 says:

@hp11208 dont think that way everyone has there own language they speak or
accent its a common thing, dont worry about that i seen alot of people on
youtube with accent who cares i even have one lol.

michaelovitch says:

I’m very happy if it helps you! If you’re new bearing is studborn to go on
the drive shaft you can let the drive shaft in a freezer few hours or the
night to retract the metal and facilitate you the job. Thanks for your
comment !

michaelovitch says:

Zero trouble. Just think to mark all the parts before to remove them. You
have to reinstall them exactly the same way. : )

Brain Child says:

I have a 85 240 that sounds like a jet taxing down the runway. Would this
bearing cause this noise. I think it is the original bearing at 277000
miles. I have already replaced the rubber bushing around the bearing. Great
video, thanks a lot.

michaelovitch says:

Happy it helped you ! If your drive shaft vibrates : check that the bearing
is well seated on the extremity of the shaft, if not it can be the problem
too. be sure the two parts of the drive shaft are well bolted together and
no crap is between the two contact flat surfaces.

Joel Schwabe says:

I could have used some Benny Hill “Yakkity Sax” music… But all in all a
good video.

asanaya94 says:

Lol that strange usually a hammer and a few busted 2x4s usually get the job
done lmao, like the different attempts!

volvosweden says:

Nice Job. I did this repair on my 1990 Volvo 240 including replacing the
rubber part. Hummer did the job for me however. Yours was more difficult to
remove.

racer83racing says:

well the rear wheel bearings are lubed by differential oil i’m pretty sure
so maybe it’s low on fluid LOL, i did become very skilled at fixing
240’s/had all the factory manuals etc. i’m very familliar with the fuel
injection on the 85-90’s and wiring and relays etc

thedarkgreenvanman says:

The rubber ring between the drive shaft and the transmission got completely
shredded from vibrations probably and then I could find a replacement 🙁 it
all started then the carrier barring seized up and I took the drive shaft
off to replace it

michaelovitch says:

lol yep, handy grinder !

michaelovitch says:

Yes the bearing could cause this noise. You should locate the noise quite
easily with your ears just behind the 2 front seats. If it was a wheel
bearing you would hear it on one side or the other. 277 000 is enough for
it lol

michaelovitch says:

What happened ?

michaelovitch says:

@hp11208 Thanks ! i don’t speak because the English is not my mother
tongue. I don’t want to sound ridiculous with my shitty accent or hesitate
to formulate a sentence while i’m working because it’s annoying for you i
think. I will try however the next time. just for you ! lol

basse000 says:

I learned alot from this movie. I have a serious problem on my Volvo 940. I
changed the middle bearing part (rubber thing with the metall thing that
turns around…LOL :p ) and now the whole car vibrates. because when i took
the drive shaft apart, I didn’t think that it would have a say that I just
entered the shafts together whatever way I would. But now I think maybe I
know why it is vibrating and I will check. but I seriously hope that I have
the same marks that you did on yours… Thanks! 🙂

bob dobbs says:

How much trouble was it to remove the driveshaft from the car? I may have
to do this soon. Thanks for the video!

michaelovitch says:

My bearing problem is not on a 240 it’s on a fwd car with a toasted rear
bearing, but it’s really noisy like you said. You have a motronic ?

michaelovitch says:

Thanks ! Benny hill is a classic but too much used i think.

michaelovitch says:

Thanks to you ! You have a nice channel i check it.

jeremybuilt says:

awesome video, I’m doing exactly this procedure tomorrow AM on my 81 240
wagon, I can almost guarantee my old bearing will have to come off the same
way. Glad I watched!

michaelovitch says:

@volvosweden Thank you for the comment. yeah it was stuck because old and
because the factory paint was applied after the bearing was installed Maybe
it would have been easier if i removed the paint first.

michaelovitch says:

That’s a good question : ) The bolts rotate with the drive shaft because
they attach the gear box and the differential to it. if they have not the
same weight it can cause a balance problem and vibrations. it can looks
like ridiculous but if one is 5 or 10 grams heavier than the others it will
cause bad vibrations. that’s why you have to check the are the same lenght
too. : )

racer83racing says:

if it’s the bearing on the driveshaft it really should get some grease, i
learned the hard way, my bearing siezed and destroyed the rubber part and
it sounded like a jack hammer under the car because the drive shaft wasn’t
being held in place and then my rear transmission seal was destroyed as a
result

michaelovitch says:

If it’s just a problem of non matching parts you certainly have marks of
wear or like in my case arrow or paint spots. in my case you can only bolt
the two parts in two different ways because the holes are not equally
distributed : it’s a symetrical system if it’s like for me just flip one
part 180° and retry it . It should be good. Give me news in any case !

michaelovitch says:

lol sure ! There is a dead rear wheel bearing so noisy on my parents car
wich make you think the whole thing is going to blow up lol

spelunkerd says:

Nice demo. A press might have made it easier, if you could position the
shaft around it. You did a great job with hand tools.

Indy452 says:

That last way was how I usually have to do removals as well…good
informative video…..Thanks.

G CANDO says:

I say if you aint gonna use it Cut It… nice video

Jason Repko says:

A bearing puller from Harbor Freight is $10 and could have saved you a lot
of grief.

racer83racing says:

i only know volvo 240’s, they are sooooooooo easy to work on

thedarkgreenvanman says:

Thank you very much! I wish I knew that two months ago, if I did I would
probably still have my 240 wagon 🙁

michaelovitch says:

Right : ) They are well made and there is no plastic bullshit everywhere.
You have mechanical fuel injection or electronic ?

michaelovitch says:

In my parents car it’s a wheel bearing. I think you got the worst that
could happen to you with this bearing : (

thedarkgreenvanman says:

why did you weigh the bolts?

racer83racing says:

i had both but i am more familiar with the late 80’s

michaelovitch says:

@spelunkerd Thank you ! It’s a bit the poor man’s methods….i wish i had a
press for sure. i thought i would have to use the freezer to retract the
shaft and use the oven to heat up a bit the bearing but it worked without.
i was surprised (and happy)

michaelovitch says:

I’m not a professional,so of course i’m an amateur. : )

michaelovitch says:

i’ve bought one after that… but no harbor freight here. : )
