Unlock the harness tab before prying the plug off with a screwdriver.
You don’t have to remove the hood release thing is a pain in the ass to put in back on you just have to fiddle around with the hanging grille but it saves you the hassle of putting that thing back on

You forgot to have three flat screws on the underside of the car (motor cover) 🙂
Learn how to remove the power connectors properly, there is a clip on the plug that you need to squeeze. Well done, just knackered the plug with the screw driver. Excellent example of what not to do

Great EXCEPT the connector removal. Best to see "How to undo VW wiring connectors" by theweekthatis for that, useful, no tools, no damage and certainly worked for me. Very useful video coverage of all screws, disassembly and reassembly.
