Lian Bennett says:

ah i was hoping you would show how to bleed the cooling system for air
locks.. but a great video none the less.. i need to change my thermostat
but seeing how its fiddly, i might end up throwing some tools around lol

richpin06a says:

If you have a 2.0L and it is overheating it would be wise to check the
water pump for impeller failure.

Bobbie Adkins says:

do you know if it would be the same on a 2002 jetta gl? i just had to
replace the altonator and now its over heating. i just cant find any videos
on an 02. Thanks much!!

richpin06a says:

Remove thermostat. Insert gloved finger into thermostat mounting hole .
try to turn impeller with gloved finger. If impeller moves freely it has
failed.

ThechossenOne says:

So, how can I check the impeller? Its there a noise? Whater leak? I thougth
that may be the thermostat… Is this the only reason for the rediator be
cold while the hoses are hot?

richpin06a says:

No i did not.

Michael Sackstein says:

Did u replace the radiator on this car as well?

richpin06a says:

It depends were the coolant is leaking from.

richpin06a says:

The later ones with the 2.0L had plastic impellers on the water pumps which
came apart resulting in engine overheating.

Tara Huber says:

i replaced the thermostat and it is now leaking out antifreeze.. i no that
my water pump was apparently going because a mechanic said the funny sound
when i start my car is a pump, but do u think my thermostat is just put in
wrong?

Tara Huber says:

hi rich thanks for the video very informative, but i have a questio when
your not a mechanic and havent worked on many cars do you think this is
like easy moderate or hard for someone?

ThechossenOne says:

Rich, i have the same problem on my 98 jetta, the hoses have the same temp,
but the radiator still cool……what else could be?

YouraN1993R says:

nice video, thank you!

SnakeRiverFishing says:

Excellent

Ryan Saulus says:

Fuck Volkswagen

Siton Mycar says:

My 96 Golf is overheating. Just replaced the thermostat. Lower radiator
hose and radiator don’t heat up. Heat seems to radiate from large hose on
right side of engine. Running engine I see no water pumped out of top
radiator hose or any hoses to overflow ball. Sound like I need a water
pump? The blades felt OK through the thermostat hole.

BMAC VAGS says:

Nice video, but this procedure is a little different on a 1.8 turbo. You
can see it on my channel

richpin06a says:

When it gets hot are both top and bottom radiator hoes the same temperature.

Tim Adams says:

Great job on the video. Will make this work so much easier. If you don’t
mind, what kind of camera do you use to make this video? It seemed to stay
put and hold the frame easily without a problem in focus. I’m just curious
if you have something that mounts well or what. Some use handheld cams,
some use digital cameras and some I’ve seen do these videos just with the
cameras on their laptops. Kudos!

WhenImGoneCa says:

dont buy german or any other luxury car there just expensive,. they also
break down more then regular cars. luxury cars are just money pits

richpin06a says:

No they didn’t bother to put one in.

900Yugo says:

korean cars are even simpler to repair just like Japanese cars. then when
you need coolant just use any brand of Japanese coolant
available.(Honda,Toyota,Nissan,Subaru,Zerex Asian vehicle,etc.) plenty of
parts too since most Korean cars share parts with Mitsubishi.

JohnSRosamond says:

At the end of the video it looks like the serpentine belt is off. Water
pump replacement too?

richpin06a says:

There is way to much plastic on these modern cars makes working on them
like steeping through a mine field.

Kyle P says:

oh also a little tip. while you have the Thermostat out. if you look
inside( to the left) with a flash light. you can see the plastic water pump
impeller. make sure its in good shape. briansmobile1 shows it in How to
diagnose Beetle overheating.

richpin06a says:

It could be the water pump because that seems to be a big problem on these
cars.

richpin06a says:

They seem to have gone downhill.

GalaxyDust says:

Plastic impeller? Reminds me of the Saturn original CTS. Rather buy a
disposable Korean car. Am I right or am I right. Long live Richpin, and
happy.

Edwin Cruz says:

Hi thanks for your videos that are very useful, and looking at that video
would tell me what the name of that orange line is where mede engine oil in
my jetta is broken and not the number of part to change thanks for the help

richpin06a says:

No it is different coolant vw came up with.

David Rossman says:

You are the best man. Watched a boatload of videos on far fixing and YOURS
are THE BEST! THANX!

Kyle P says:

Sister has a 01 beetle that needs a ABS pump (what i was told)? and needs a
Cat. This car has been nothing but trouble. Every time I fix it, A day
later, Something else gos bad. Never again will i buy a newer VW.
