71-72 Beetles have unique seat tracks, you can use the earlier floor pans if you modify or replace the early tracks on the vw floors.

This Beetle came to me with both heater channels nearly destroyed and huge holes in the vw floors. I was asked if I could replace these and the VW Beetle heater channels and of course I could. So here’s the video of me performing a Volkswagen floor pan replacement from start to finish.

VW Beetle Floor Pan Replacement really isn’t all that hard. If you’ve never replaced a VW floor pan this video is for you!

First you need to find the VW Floor Pans specific to your year. Once you’ve got those picked out then you remove the body and cut out the VW floor pan. Once the VW floors are removed, you then clean off any other rust with a wire brush and afterwards with a rust converter and let it sit overnight. The next morning you take your brand new VW floor pans and lay them in position in your chassis. Once you have your vw bug floor pan replacement parts in position, cut off any excess and align them properly. For floor pan replacement VW Beetle it really is that easy!

VW Thing floor pan replacement is exactly the same, however the vw floor pan repair is completed with much wider VW Floor pans such as those from a Karmann Ghia.

Yes, I know… the whole procedure wasn’t completed in 25 minutes, but this video depicts how I did it in about 25 minutes of run time. 😛

Hey man. Looks awesome! I have a 67 bug that my parents bought for me when I was 13. I’m now 40. I still have it and it’s in need of pans and heater channels. Where are you located and how much is a fair price to do the pans and channels?

Michael Butt says:

I can not tell if im like.. wrong. but i seriously don't see the advantage of doing this over patching with scrap steel.

Steven Parker says:

you can square it up before welding by doing Cross Measurement in an X pattern fom wheel to wheel at the same point and get the Frame Somewhat Square Before Welding.

Error says:

Nice work. I had a 64' that had more rust than not. Final drive the seat fell thru the floor while I was sitting on it and driving about 35 mph, just enough to scuff the road but that was the end for me. Used the engine and trans as a backup for a Super Beetle that I never needed. Still in storage somewhere.

gene mayne says:

I MUST REBUILT 4000 VW OVER 40 YEARS AND MANY MADE MANY BEACH BUGGY 'S THANKS TO MY SHE BURNED ALL PHOTOS

William B says:

Brings back memories of the 70's when we made rail buggies…cut out 14" from tunnel..those were the days..

Krister Emtweden says:

One cool thing is that here in sweden the car identity is the frame or in this case the bottom on a VW. and the onlu thing that you need for it tostill be a vw ( in the papers ) is the central tunnel and front and rear axel. then it does'nt matter if you put a ferrari on top of it…it's still the ol vw. Legaly. ok you're stuck with the vw motor and so on but it's stll a vw and with that you also keep the original year of making wich is good…. so you could put a corvette body on a vw 1966 chassie …still a vw 1966 here,

elsie bond says:

brah. ima Bug nut. had a few in my day. city im from was known for having a gang that drove them. so made driving a Bug alil dangerous. thumbs up..!

Joe Albert says:

Great job, you make it look easy, but I know it isn't. I did see one disturbing thing while you were welding the floor pan. It looks like a kid sitting behind the SUV next door. A driver could get in and back over him without ever seeing him.

loscarnm says:

Amazing job, all that detail!!!
Just wondering why you removed the orange paint on the new floor pans instead of just sanding and painting over it.
