No Power to Wheels! 🔥🦆💩🔧 VW Type 3 Fastback Problem/Rescue/Repair

Yep! I finally broke down! Ruby the VW Type 3 Fastbackl decided to have a mysterious bang after I pulled out of a parking lot, and no power to the wheels. After some inspecting it turned out to be a problem with the Chinese replacement CV joint bolts that have continuously come loose,,,, they let go and actually broke! What a bunch of junk! I removed all the broken and garbage bolts and fetched some OEM VW CV joint bolts from around the yard and cleaned them to make a complete set! Upon reinstalling them the VW torque settings were not only easily met, but exceeded! This should be good from here out.

Thankfully I was really close to home, and Wild Bill only lives a few blocks away! Thanks @WildBillVW https://youtube.com/wildbillvw

Warren Mink says:

Tough luck . But at least a great lesson on the Chinese crap

Patar 79 says:

Crazy, EZGZ Baja just dropped his cv’s as well. Check them bolts once in awhile.

Garry Kellogg says:

Lesson Learned…Drill holes through the lower heads of the bolts and run wire through them to keep them from backing out.

VWs And Vettes says:

Sorry you had this breakdown! But… you da man (da duck man! :-D) and so of course you figured it out in no time. Great work! These cars wouldn't be our much loved VWs if they didn't act up every now and then. Stay safe, have fun and please keep the videos comin' Glenn!

One hung low tool company

Michael Edge says:

Good ole cheap sockets lol

Toto Guy says:

sucks the problem you had but good its an easy fix! bmw's have the same kind of setup not sure how they dont come out on a bmw mind you i have come across them being loose on a BMW E46 before so maybe its the same issue. i know they're a pain in the ass to undo on a BMW though! the oem bolts are E10 so you use a female torx socket to undo them which in itself is a complete pain to do as not only do you have to force them against the boot to get the socket on straight but you also have to use a 18 inch 3/8" drive bar to undo them as they are always super tight!! much easier on a ramp of course but at home on axle stands its bad lol.

talking of bolts as you probably know there are grades so if you put in a higher grade its going to be harder and i would expect it should hold for much longer. however, as you probably also know the harder the bolt the harder it will be to drill it so sometimes weaker bolts are better depending on the application.

keep up the video's as always
