Vincent Capizzi says:

Even though you look like your recovering from a hangover you were very
helpful. Downside in my case..the new lock module I installed when complete
seems to now leave the cable longer than it was previously. When opening
the door from the inside the handle pulls almost completely back to open
the door. From what I can see, everything is in its correct place. Any
ideas?

Ken Sransky says:

I have a 2001 Beetle that has the common problems of no interior lights as
well as the alarm going off erratically when starting the car. Does the
module need to be programmed in some manner so that the remote functions
with the new module? Great video of how to replace the module. I tried to
repair mine, but it didn’t work so I am familiar with what you are saying.

Evan Ott says:

My door just recently will not let me open from the inside or the outside
from the inside it feels like it’s caught on something it’s very hard to
pull but the outside feels like the door is locked (no resistance)

Daniel Vidal says:

Hey Brian, i tightened up the lock cylinder clip to much and it broke, now
nothing holds it in place how can i fix this?

Mike Picone says:

Literally just happened to me as i got to work and i have the same
car…let me know if you end up getting a response/figure out what the
problem is!!

FlyisFoEva says:

hey brian thank you this video helps allot i have a 98 passat and the left
rear door opens from the inside but not from outside, when i pull on the

be?

porschefan102 says:

question for you… I’m about to do this to my golf, after you remove the
outer panel and are ready to remove the inner panel, do you have to support
the window in order to take off the panel or door latch module?

Armando Castillejo says:

Hey mark… I have a question… I have a passat 99… And my door latch
cable is broke… Its a easy way to do it myself!??

briansmobile1 says:

Dealership or Junk Yard.

briansmobile1 says:

this vid is gona be a big help,thanks! i got a mk4 jetta,but i cant open
the door to start work on it,any ideas on how to get it open with out
RIPPING the door interrior panel apart and having to buy a new one?

SlipknotMaggot0526 says:

Do you know where I can get some outer door handle seals for my mk3 jetta?
They’re completely rotted and i’m sure it will cause more rust down the
road and I can’t seem to find where to buy them anywhere.

briansmobile1 says:

Your linkage has play due to wear or not being properly secured at the
cable ends.

briansmobile1 says:

The lock cylinder in the door may be glitched or the linkage may be
disconnected.

briansmobile1 says:

@iMatt65 You’re welcome. Thanks for commenting.

awaisau393 says:

mrmekone says:

@briansmobile1 Do you have to reprogram the door latch module with vagcom?
Or is it simple plug and play. Good information by the way, I just bought a
tdi golf mk4 and the driver side doesn’t autolock. Its a 2003 so it should
have the newer inners but it looks like somebody tried to break in through
the key silider. Any advice?

skye orion says:

@briansmobile1 winter spring sumner autumn verry cold snowy icy winters it
rains quite a lot all year and quite pleasentley warm sumners and
everything between its cool enough not to have air conditioning but warm
enough th get away with 2 wheel drive

Christopher Vazquez says:

So it’s not the cylinder? Thank God. I’ll tear it down when I get the
chance. Any idea of what I have to replace?

aetommyboy says:

Why would he text you? lmao. You have a bad latch module. Replace it…

Alexandre Landim says:

Nice video! I think it’s not my problem, because the alarm malfunction in
my 2006 Jetta is the alarm that start beeping without reason. The doors
sensors looks fine, but I can’t fix it or even disable the alarm forever,
so I need to disable the alarm every time I turn it off, by openning de
passenger door, close the doors with the remote alarm, turn the key to the
ignition position to disable de alarm, and close the door. EVERY DAY! :/
But thanks for the videio and hugs from Brazil!

kevo ian says:

?..must change the module ? please help me …

Nathan Jones says:

If this was not your best video I would like to see some of your good
videos. Thanks you saved me about 500 dollars from the VW Dealership

briansmobile1 says:

@GRANDTOURBUSTA There is, but I’m not sure how to explain it. I put the
cylinder in a vise with soft jaws and set the spring with a dental pick.

Mike Douglas says:

Dude you are a life saver…. Got a dumb question that I hope you can help
me with. The drivers door has been opening only if I gave it a quick hard
pull. Now the damn thing won’t let the latch close when I shut the door. Is
this caused from the actuator being faulty? The car is an 02 jetta. Thanks
in advance for any more help that you could share.

IzzleBizzleShizzle says:

Great video Brian. I had a quick question. The drivers side door on my 04
GLI will unlock with the key FOB but won’t lock. Do you think its a
mechanical issue or will I have to replace the door latch module?

briansmobile1 says:

The cable jacket from the inside handle end is undone.

briansmobile1 says:

lol I get told I look like everybody- usually someone new each day. From
Bear Grylls to Christian Bail.

ventureelect says:

@briansmobile1 Whats wrong with the filming. I think its great.

gregmv12 says:

So yeah – i used your video to help guide me thru the latch replacement.
Thankyou so much! (but even with the 12pt bit, i had a heck of a time
getting the latch bolts out) After all is done, turns out the Cylinder is
broken too….. SO im facing the option of THAT repair too….. Any chance
of dong a video for how all those little pcs go together in there?

nattyt10 says:

do u no how to get the door open if its locked shut to start with? also my
petrol cap wont open by the button and some times the passenger door dosent
open and the driver door mirror wont work any ideas please please help

briansmobile1 says:

@ThreeGreenDown Congratulations! Savor the feeling of success!

PITYA82 says:

Hi Kevo, I think it is not the complet module problem. It should be the
button of the microswitch(with red and blue cable) is broken. Typical
failure of VW latches. You have to change the microswitch for a new one.

grewal harinder says:

great work give me good idea, thanks

briansmobile1 says:

@chrisvazquez28 Where it links in is broken off. Don’t be shy to tear it
down and check it out.

briansmobile1 says:

@ThreeGreenDown Perhaps the spring on the new on is inside and invisible in
the new one causing the old one you found in the door to be duplicate? It’s
hard to say because I can’t see it from here.
