Urgent. There was a problem with this shifter. Watch update video!
Follow along as I install a short throw shifter on a mk4 jetta tdi. Same shifter will work on almost any mk 4 jetta golf or beetle with 5 speed.

I do not believe you did this already lol
Aaaaaand this is why I don’t let shops touch my vehicles. This dude has no idea what he’s doing
This is literally a 5 minute job and you don't need to jack up the car, just drill a hole on the passenger side of the box. I just did this job this weekend. Also, take the #20 torx bolt off the first gear getter. It's easy.
Dam dosent look like its worth the hassle lol
Any idea if you can put a different knob on this shifter? I like the mechanism but i'm not so sure about knob style. Thanks for being active on your old videos too thats awesome.
If ur putting one of these in please please watch a different video
How does the reverse gear work during this since it is push down to go i to reverse how would it be just pull up?
Could this be used in conjunction with the Audi TT shifter that goes on the gear selector side of the linkage for even shorter throw?
How do you adjust the cables now without the locking pin on the inside?
Spins the knob off and it falls on floor. Then toss the shaft on the floor. Nice.
Mangle everything in this job
Would this work on a 2014 golf tdi mk6
How do you adjust your cables with this shifter, all the other videos are on the stock shifter
horses ass springs to mind
you make it look alot harder than it actually is.
I installed the shifter all gears work fine but i have no reverse lockout it just goes into reverse without pulling or pushing up or down. I installed the plate and everything properly but i dont understand why it does this
As I’m sure you know, to put many VWs in reverse you have to push down and pretty much put it into first gear. How would this aftermarket short shifter be able to adapt to that? Would it still allow the shifter to be pushed up on the shaft when you push it down? I’m not sure if im explaining it right but I’m essentially asking how that reverse style would translate to this aftermarket shifter.
Good video of the whole install process.
Around 10:00 though you might find it easier to get that torx bolt out of the side plate and take it off. The spring and the bushing will stay on there. Get the spring off the shifter. Then pull the shifter up and turn the shifter about 180deg. It'll come right out.
You are making me cringe with this install
ez egy kontár xD 😀 hát úgy fogja meg feszegeti hogy látszik rajta hogy kb fingja nincs neki hogy mit csinál 😀 kész vicc
2 things, why not pop that pivot arm off. shifter in socket, then reinstall the pivot arm.
The kits I have seen like this come with an adjustable bushing that the flat spot runs on. it mounts to the upright portion of the retaining color towards the shifter. stops the shaft from spinning and no metal to metal contact.
I am curious if this can be done in the car as well. I have changed both shifter bushings in the car. I would think it is possible, but this is way more room to work.
Thanks for the video. it is a great run through on how the shifter parts are assembled.
Wrong Volkswagen’s don’t go in reverse like most cars, you have to push down on the shift knob and go like your trying to put the car in first gear. I personally wouldn’t let you do anything to my car much less pay you to, not because of you being wrong but because of the way you treat the customers property, throwing the shift knob on the hard ground while touching everything with greasy ass hands? Also half the time it looks like your learning as you go just to try and figure out how it goes together which I do give you credit for finishing the job.
Those shifters are cold in the winter! =)
