Nice video. Just one question on the amount of tension. How do you judge
when you have the correct tension so the belt doesn’t slip or the ac
compressor front bearing isn’t overloaded.
Thanks Mike, I will be tackling this job next week. Hopefully I’ll be able
to spot this arrow you mentioned. Don’t have a lift so it won’t be easy.
We currently do not have an auto repair video that shows this type of
repair. I’ll keep this in mind if we make this repair in the future.
Mike, I’m soon to tackle removal of the AC clutch pulley on my 5.9L 1998
Dodge Ram. I think the compressor is OK and I think I can swap out the
clutch pulley without depressurizing the freon. If you’ve done such a
repair, it would be great to see it. I’m not coming out with any videos of
your quality on Youtube today. By the way, you’ve got a spelling mistake in
the title here.
Mike, Finished installing the belts today. I looked for the range markings
and arrow you mentioned but couldn’t spot it. Before loosing I checked the
tension that was on the belt by feel, then put approximate same tension on
new belt. My 6mm allen was the same as yours. I liked your idea with using
a box wrench over it. Worked great. Thanks again.
On the belt tensioner, there should be an arrow and a range in which the
arrow should be. If it’s outside of this range, you may need to replace the
