What is different about the front bearing replacements?

Brandon Warner says:

where in the hell did you get a 17 mm triple square bit?! im looking everywhere and the only thing i can find is 16 and 18!!

TechTime says:

Anyone know if the torque specs would be the same for a 2010 golf?

Nikkos says:

Hi my friend! Very good job! I want to ask you if I have to put some grease before wheel bearing?

hpGentlemen1 says:

Hey Charles. I have a question. I found a 08 r32 for 4,100. Looks clean but the owner hasn't called back to provide mileage and a visit to check out the car. I feel like the car is low priced for being an r32. Any suggestions on what to look for in regards to mechanical wear and tear?

Douglas Breese says:

Prompt timing for this vid. Working on my Mk5 Rabbit's right now. 4ft pipe and breaker bar. This is by far the easiest set up, compared to the fronts. I still have nightmares of the torches (for heating the hub up) and rust. Ty for the tip not to use power tools, its arm day 😉 and this all started with the ABS/Squeel Tires on Pavement lights on. Used the Vagcom to verify the sensors are working. The ring on one WB was half gone. Doing both as you suggested. 150k miles.

Dan Bert says:

Why do you reckon they advised against using impact tools on the hub bolt? Are they worried it'd sheer the head off or something?

BrandBijl says:

When spinning the wheel with one hand an then touch the spring with other you can actually feel it if the bearing is bad. Works with slightly damage bearings to

chad harmon says:

Charles do you have a grey streak through your beard? I think it's taking on its own personality lol

Nils Guitars and Mandolins says:

Thanks Charles!

stephen robson says:

Getting those caliper carrier bolts out can be a real pain, the mk4 design where you could slide the disc past the carrier was better. Of course vw couldn't resist changing a perfectly good design.

Scott O'Doherty says:

Charles! The production quality of the video here just sky rocketed! Great tutorial as always.

Matt Brennan says:

you made that look pretty easy, but dam- triple squares and torx down there on the wheel? ug. But that will keep you busy replacing them, if they dont break or round out

Jason Grady says:

Is the mk4 similar? I got a mk4 tdi with 356k on it and my rears are starting to make noise at 70.

Takeo Mack says:

GREAT VIDEO CHARLES! Thank you brother!!!

Deadeye1983 says:

Hey bud awesome video. I have an idea for a video at the dealership we have been running into replacing alot steering wheel ignition cylinder lock housings. I have done 3 this week one on a R32 and 2 mk 5 jetta's

cappaculla says:

awesome video, many thanks

Dakkyz says:

Could anyone tell me if this video will work step by step with a UK version of a MK5 GTI Golf?

I'm not 100% sure if they're is a difference but I'm sure the American models were made in Mexico and the EU and UK models were made in Germany, so is there any diffeance?

Thanks btw great video.

Michael Henriks says:

Hey Charles! Thanks for this video, did that job last weekend to replace the splash guard. Unfortunately I had to drill the brake disc "position" screw because I stripped the head. Is this screw necessary? I don't think so but I think that the caliper is a bit stuck now, the wheel is not turning freely (didn't have the tool to push back the piston). Thanks

PS: for anyone attempting this job, don't do like me. Be sure to remove that screw BEFORE removing the caliper or the disc will turn when you try to unscrew it.

Johnny Woo says:

Much easier than mk4. No cutting or pulling of bearing race.

Longtrailside says:

Since you have been a vw tech and have years of experience with using torx, hex, and triple square bolts. I'm curious on what tool brand that you use or other mechanics find as a reliable set, especially in the form of extended impact set.

Bapo Rapo says:

On my 2009 gti mkv when I load up either side of the car there is a loud clunk coming from the side the car is turning. (It is not the wheels hitting the well) I’m thinking it’s control arms or some type of bearings in the front. Any suggestions? Also if anyone knows some preventative maintenance that I could do as the car has 130k miles

THE NHRA GUY #49 says:

My mk 4 GTI needs a rear driver side wheel bearing . It sounds like a helicopter at all speeds lol
