“in an effort to get an accurate reading, I jacked it up just enough on one
side” If you want to get as much fluid out as possible your going to want
to make sure your car is on jack stands so it is level. This is not how
you’re supposed to do it. Especially if you are using the funnel insert to
measure.

Dr Dwg says:

why did you change this while it was hot? is that needed? thank you

wizkid01 says:

2:04 – 24inch socket… yea ok, ever heard of millimetres??

g4sean says:

Excellent DIY video as Always Plac!

Christopher Inch says:

The old leaving the battery on the ground makes it go flat isn’t pertinent
anymore. The reason that came around is that early car batteries were glass
and wood cases and leaving them on the concrete caused the wood to swell
and shrink as they absorbed water and changed temperature breaking the
glass. So putting them on blocks of wood helped prevented this during
charging. Just a bit of random knowledge for you.

Travis Buffington says:

not sure if it would work, but couldn’t you remove the main plug but leave
the black tube in, so air could escape while replacing the fluid and when
you finish the 4th bottle, reinstall the plug and do the 5th bottle?

Trigger HappyTV says:

Excellent guide, nicely explained about the filler tube

arseni k says:

is vag com necessary or u can just go for a spin and and drain whatever
comes out ??

carlos cruz says:

At the end you were at 54c. But you said instructions were for it to be at
35-45c. Did you drain more or left it at 54c?? Also what type of tools did
you use. Can you list them please thanks.

John Doe says:

That wrong washer looks like the one for the fill plug on the 09G
Tiptronic. I know because I have the 09G and I am planning to change my
fluid and have a washer like that one for it. Do you still have the
receipt? Return it next time you are out by the dealer who sold it to you.
They usually sell for $5 or $6.

VWGTI says:

Hey thanks for your vidoes! They are of great help in doing work on my
GTI! This one task I might take it to the VW dealer and let them do it.
Looks a little hard without a car lift for me. Thanks again!

Good video, gonna do mine, but with a VAS 6262 tool in the next week. Only
thing I can say is the battery on concrete myth. It does NOT apply to
modern batteries!

Albert says:

Do you know what the ID of that clear plastic tube was? I have a funnel,
but not the tube.

passattdise says:

Very nicely done video of a DSG fluid change. Only minor suggestion, start
the video with Bill of Material with parts, and part numbers… filter #
with o rings, proper seal number, and 5 parts of the DSG fluid.

Many have noted that rather than overfill, about 4.7 liters of DSG fluid
does the job properly with no overfill step required afterwards. Measure
accurately the contents you drain, and replace with a like amount. 4.6 to
4.7 liters seems to be the correct amount, nice to know when this stuff is
$20 a liter.

cassellracing says:

WOW, nice job on the video !!! Just curious as you seem very familiar with
V-Dubs, what cable & software do you use, I here there are several
different kinds & quality. Possibly have a web link to it ?? Thanks in
advance….. =)

KillaBandit says:

Recommendation. When draining the car, lower the car back down so it’s
level and drains all fluid out. Then when you close it back up, only put
the black overfill part back in, and lower it back down and fill it up till
it overflows. Once it starts to overflow, lift it back up and close it up.

Adam Hladek says:

And I didnt use Vag-com. Just a thermal temp gun. The difference in temp
from the external aluminum and the actual temp of the fluid was within 1C
in the drainpan while emptying the fluid. 44C drained and 36C when
performing the overflow.

Michael Kruszewski says:

Is the car running when you drain it at the end?

jon doe says:

Good Vid my man. I’ve done many tranny fluid jobs and I’ve never done the
whole temp thing. I make sure the fluid in the tranny and the fluid I’m
going to replace it with is the same temp (ambient air temp). In other
words, I don’t warm the engine and tranny up before doing the job. Then
simply put in as much as you took out. Jon Paul, you said you took out
5.5lt’s and only put back 4.5lt’s. Was the tranny hot when you removed the
oil? if not I’d say you have a problem. either the factory put to much in
or you put to little in. Just sayin.

Adam Hladek says:

Just did this today and worked out great!. Here’s a tip for all you top
fill guys, before I opened my toolbox I sat 5 qts of DSG fluid in front of
a small space heater, the fluid was 40C when I funneled it in, took only
about 15 minutes for all 5 bottles, and I pulled .3 litres out the overfill
tube which means the tranny took 4.6.. I only drained about 4.1 litres out
initially, but the aamco guys didn’t put enough fluid in 40,000 miles ago.

Jon Paul says:

Hi mate, did mine last night, drained 5.5lt so put back 5.5lt of new dsg
fluid. Ran for 10min used thermo gun to check temp and then drained a
litre. How much fluid did you drain at your last step? I reckon I have
about 4.5lt in. Thanks for your video. Vw said you need special tools to do
it. That’s Crap. Saved $300+ cheers Jp

Junho Chen says:

How do you feel after you done the fluid change? What is the difference?

gwf1213 says:

fill up your tranny, lol

Taylor Straton says:

Thanks for the informative video! I have to say it though; it’s extremely
unsafe to get under a car that isn’t safely mounted on jack stands. I
shouldn’t need to tell you what would happen if that hydraulic floor jack
failed… and that car does not have enough clearance for your chest!
Safety aside, the car needs to be completely level for the DSG fluid
change, or too much/too little fluid will drain. Just my $.02.

MobileGSP says:

Save yourself time and money… ATF Adaptor Tool For DSG Transmission on
Ebay $35 good for life. I bought that for my self service on the GLI DSG.
It fit perfect, gets tight when you run the car and it gets warm, but it
has a nice abrasive surface you can grab with some pliers to loosen it.
Worked like a charm, just slice your bottle. ECS tuning have the whole kit
126 I believe it was. Also Infrared Thermo instead of VagCom worked fine
you have a huge tolerance 35-45C

Benjamin Jockers says:

What size tubing did you use to fill the fluid through the filter opening?

fcsporting10 says:

I noticed you only jacked up one corner of your car. Shouldn’t you jack up
all sides to level? That may be why you had so much overflow from factory.

Berhan Çokusuğlu says:

hi there i use mk6 golf wiht 1.6 liter 102 hp. in my car they are using 7
speed DSG and i heard that vw says that dsg fluid musn’t be changed. is it
true ?

LastHumansGarage says:

No problem RockoJocko.

jontg429 says:

Great vid! I just got a Passat TDI with the DSG, may do my own DSG service
as the dealer wants big money to do the job!

Todor Genkov says:

Thank you, it was useful, I liked.

SolidCopy1 says:

I did this on my 2007 GTI with DSG, had to use a VagCom to monitor the DSG
temps to drain the extra fluid.

luke johnson says:

This is awesome! I do not own a newer GTi mine is 2007 with 45k on the
clock. I’m about to do this procedure.

Robert Black says:

Very informative video, thanks! I get the kit to do this service from
idparts.com. OEM VW DSG fluid & filter was $144.95. Volkswagen dealership
wanted $400.00 to do this service & it is simple to do yourself! My car is
a 2011 VW Golf TDI.

Rommellollis says:

Thank you for posting. I enjoy your videos and have learned quite a lot
from you. My current mod list is: EVOMS Intake K04,Neuspeed Discharge CTS
Throttle pipe Full Exhaust & DP Revo Stage 3 software R8 coilpacks,Audi S3
Intercooler Revo Dog bone insert Eibach Drivegear Springs Powerbrake
upgrade kit (braided brake lines/Slotted Rotors/Endless Brakepads) RF650
High Performance Brake Fluid. I will do DSG oil change at 60000km. Would
you recommend better DSG oil cooler? Any heating issues?

CKSixTwentySix says:

What would you recommend for someone who does not have access to VAG COM
for monitoring the temperature of the fluid? Would a laser style temp gun
work if it is aimed at a certain point on the trans?

Todor Genkov says:

Thank you again. I don’t think tool for $35 is required as somebody
suggested. I liked the way how you demonstrated. To others: Let’s keep the
things simplified and not waste money for these “special” tools unless is
necessary. We could not buy special tools for everything…Looking forward
for some yours other videos without special tools.
