There’s a time and place for a tire plug, but a good tire repair uses a combination repair unit that seals the tire from the inside and outside. We do this by removing the tire from the wheel, inspecting the inside, drilling with a carbide bit, buffing to a rough finish, gluing, and filling the hole with a one-piece repair unit. When the repair unit is set, we seal the buffed surface with a repair sealer, before mounting and re-balancing the tire — See how I fix a nail hole using a permanent REMA plug/patch combination repair in my tire shop.
