haynes manual is pretty tight at 33ft lbs, i still saw an old toyota shop book and it was at 13, but revisions to it show now 17. Just thought Id throw it out there.
You will have to replace valve stem seals in your head.. Two ways oil can get into combustion chamber is through broken/cracked valve stem seals and a blown head gasket…
hey, i have a Mazda 6 2005, and I found oil around my 2 spark plugs in the middle, I have a 4 cylinder do I have to change the cover gasket? any advice would help thanks a lot…
Change the PCV valve, if that is going back, it can increase oil consumption and is cheap (<$10). Another possibility is it only leaks at higher oil pressures, so when you're parked you may not notice it. Have you pulled the spark plug wires to see if there is oil around the spark plugs? Also, check the coolant in the radiator. Make sure it still looks clean and doesn't have oil contamination. Keep me update, I'm curious too now.
@shooter250 I tried the cardboard no signs of oil leakage. No smoke , I use 5w30 synthetic and normal oil off and on and change anywhere from 3000 to 13000 was the longest I’ve ever went without changing it. Because I go through oil so quickly. Literally no joke I’m spending at least 30 dollars every two weeks just to keep oil in. It’s so aggravating when there are no visible signs of smoke or oil leaking. I drive about 40000 miles in a year
My first thought is its got to be going somewhere. I would wash under the hood, that any leaks will be more noticeable. I would also put cardboard under the car when you park. These two things will make leaks easier to spot.
Is the car smoking at all? What weight and type oil are you using? How many miles between oil changes? Have you taken the cap off the radiator to make sure your coolant is clean and the oil is mixing with the coolant? Is your oil cap and dipstick still there?
What could be causing my 1998 toyota corolla to go through almost 2 quarts of oil a week, the exhaust doesn’t smoke and there is no evidence of it leaking oil. The engine has 176000 miles on it what could be causing this problem?
No white smoke means your burning…not leaking
Should this be replaced if your car shoots out white smoke when you start it? thanks
Thanks so much, couldn’t have done it without with out this video!!
great video, learned a bunch!
I would guess yes if you want to keep it from leaking again.
yes
on the 2.2 ltr toyota camry vavle cover replacement is it mandatory to add the 4 dots of permatex on each side of engine?
wpuld this be the same for a 93 camry?
thnxs my camry is a 95 and was leaking oil from their
any difference between this and replacing a blown head gasket?
Thanks for sharing your helpful and well documented video.

Actually its 17ft lbs. I’ve owned a few 5sfe’s. Previously it was 13 but the revised is 17.
Mark: I’m not a mechanic, and I can’t say I’m sure. Just double check the manual.

Shooter, my haynes book says 14 ft lbs for intake manifold bolts. ARe you sure that it is 33 ft lbs? tx
I haven’t worked on a Mazda before. Anything I said would just be a guess. Sorry

I drained and refilled with new filter after the change just to be safe. I don’t know if Toyota has any official recommendations.
If it has the 2.2L engine, I think I would be similar, but I haven’t seen one yet. Good Luck
any idea on how hard will it be to do this on a 1999 toyota solara?
