I was watching another video of yours and did the crankshaft and camshaft seals. I put a new timing belt on, put the lower timing cover on, and put tension on the belt. Both the crankshaft sprocket and camshaft sprocket are at TDC. When I put the balancer back on and hit it it with my impact wrench to drive the crank bolt back to spec, the timing has changed. The camshaft sprocket is still at TDC but the mark on the balancer is way over clockwise about 20 degrees. When I rotate the engine 2 times to verify both are on time at TDC, the mark for TDC on the balancer is way off. Is it possible the balancer is slipping? It's not possible to see the crankshaft sprocket with the timing cover on.

Normally, the pulley-balancer just comes out, you don't need a puller. I use an impact tool to remove the nut. I have a 12-volt impact wrench from Harbor Freight, they sell it for use breaking wheel nuts loose, about
$25, cheaper with the coupons.. It's kind of a weird tool, but it works. You can also get a 120 volt AC corded impact tool or a cordless. But the little 12 volt has worked even for spindle nuts. Good luck!

Matthew Peters says:

What about torque to spec on that balancer?

How did u know it was the hb?

Brian Paghubasan says:

Sir should i retiming the timing belt after i replaced the harmonic balancer ?

Lynn Nicoll says:

Which direction does the bold remove on the harmonic balancer? Clockwise or counter clockwise?

Angel Arciga says:

Is it the same concept for a corolla/celica harmonic balancer?

Bob Ralston says:

Yeah… He left out the tightening section… because all the new parts have no opening inside I would crank it down with an impact gun… just remember that you may need to do a timing belt some day so don't smash it on… it would have been better with the torque specs for that crankshaft bolt… just sayin"… me and my son are doing ours tomorrow… 96 Camry DX 2.2… it spit out the balancer like old chewing gum….
