Do you ever wonder if Toyota direct injection ( D4S ) System build up carbon? In this video we take a look at an in service Toyota D4S engine to find out if that is the case or not.
Toyota’s D4S injection system uses both Direct and Port Injection. So in theory it shouldn’t build up carbon. But does it?
In this video we have a 2017 Toyota Sienna with a 2GR-FKS engine which has Toyota’s D4S System and we will find out if it does build up carbon or not.
I also share some tips on how to prevent carbon build, D4S System reliability and more.

Got an oil separator catch can on my 3.5 liter Tacoma and it’s crazy how much oil I catch in there every 1,000 miles or so….
Will putting seafoam cleaner in the vehicle help
Very good explaining so in a sense its kinda same as the new diesles. Not nessesary short trip vehicle.
I bought a '22 Corolla SE manual and plan on making it last as long as I can. 8000km/6 month oil changes every time. Every cold start I let the oil circulate until the RPM drops (30-60 seconds) before I move the car at all/load the engine. I try to limit cold starting as much as possible. And almost everytime I drive the car and I can get it up to operating temp, I give it an Italian tune-up to keep everything flowing properly. So far it is a great car and I want to keep it working flawlessly. Thanks for another insightful video.

If direct injection adds a lot to the maintenance and parts costs then I'll pass. For an average guy just trying to get to work in his daily commuter the cost doesn't seem like it will justify the benefit.
PCV systems cause carbon build up, intake runner fuel injection washes the back of the intake valve and cylinder head. Direct injection requires intake injection when it has a pcv system. Failure to redesign the pcv system in the early use of direct injection caused the issues.
Great content! Thank you. Actually Toyota had only D4 system with GDI only, at least outside USA. They also had carbon build up, usually installed on 2nd gen Avensis
Does that car not have a EGR too? Or is it only applicable to diesel.. i had a Hyundai 1.4 Diesel in the past, obviously direct injection.. i took the intake off at 100 000km and when i saw it, it was almost completely blocked, was surprised how well it drove and preform i was just curios, anyways i cleant it put it back, but thats deffos caused by the EGR, i tried blanking it off with no luck it wouldnt start at all with it blanked off. Cleaned it again at 190000km was not that bad at that time, and eventually i sold it with 250000km.. actually impressive that small lil diesel engine only consumed like 4.8L/100km and it went all the way to that milage with myself doing all services/ oilchanges.. cost me nothing other than services with obviously the recommended 5w30 as specified. When i sold it every single thing worked and i got the price i paid for it after 6years of ownership.
AMD, after reading the latest news on the cars coming out, a lot of them have driver assist programs available. Will you have to back to school leaning about the new Toyota driver assist programs?
