I paid my local Toyota dealer to replace the brake actuator right before the warranty was extended. It took me months to get a refund and I had to go to the Better Business Bureau to resolve. Toyota did not want to give up the money and kept denying my claim. The local Toyota dealership even backed me up after the main Toyota company customer service dept. (known as Toyota Customer "Experience") tried to claim the brake actuator went bad due to a "collision" and therefore the warranty was void. My vehicle has never been wrecked or collided with anything and the local Toyota dealership repeatedly relayed that there was no evidence of a collision. I made the mistake of mentioning when bringing the vehicle in that a warning light came on shortly after I went over a speed bump and it was stated in the service report copy that was sent in for reimbursement. Toyota Customer Experience said that the speed bump was considered a "collision" and the vehicle was therefore in a "accident" (I doubt my insurance would agree to that, I had full coverage). Using that reasoning going over a speed bump can void a new car's entire bumper-to-bumper warranty if a warning light comes on. Toyota still denied the claim until the Better Business Bureau got involved.

J Vill says:

FYI theres a replacement software procedure on techstream or pro bi-directional scanners that needs to be used to release the pressure before removal!!

Lew CROWLEY says:

TRY THIS FIRST!!!!!! The old starter trick. get a hammer and give that DC motor some raps.

Lew CROWLEY says:

Ha! i was at Totoya today. I showed them the 'Alert' from 2019….Only problem was that a 2008 Highlander hybrid was already 10 years old (at the time of the 'Alert')! So, it didn't apply BEFORE THE DAMN ALERT!!!!!!!!! I am a EE. This is the worst application of a Brush DC Motor in HISTORY!!!!!!

burrell lee says:

I understood you to say the scan referenced the brake booster which is the simplest to check or replace. If the booster is bad it could cause false downstream false readings also.

The one for the Prius is a fricking nightmare to remove

boyb72 says:

Hi,
Is it the motor that always go bad? Ive heard the accumulator goes bad and loses pressure. Can the accumulator be replaced?

askpatrick says:

So what were the brakes doing. Was it sinking to the floor, had to stop? Any symptoms of just check engine lights?

Aaron Torres says:

Where’d you buy it? Can’t find one under $600

Danny Vela says:

I have the same problem. The thing with my car is interesting. I wend to a yard and I found that part for $100 if the vin number of my vehicle had a letter P (fifth digit) but if it had a W. The price goes from $100 to $900 unfortunately it was a W. And they don't have it

The PM says:

When bleeding with the software do I need to open up any valves to let air escape or anything like that

Joseph Nortey says:

Mist mechanics would want to replace rather than fix like you did. Any suggestions for my 2007 Highlander hybrid needing the actuator or pump assembly

Kimsreang Lee says:

My car have the same problem, after I watched your video and saw you mentioned that Toyota extended the warranty I found on one of the car forum. Hope it help, warranty extended until 12/31/2020 regardless of mileage.

When did the brake alarm turn off?

Dad life productions says:

Hi! nice video. where would i get the software from?

gio gio says:

Can you say how frequently buster pump is restarting now after repair?
I mean when car is in READY and not touching brake pedal.
Mine is restarting every 3 minute for 5 second.

Craig Mason says:

Where did you get the software to program the actuator? What is the name?

PimptatoPCs says:

I have the same issue with my 2006 Highlander and it's out of Warranty. So many of these actuators go bad that I didn't feel comfortable buying a used one. I think there is a pretty good chance that a used one won't last very long and you will just be stuck doing the job again. Apparently Toyota has attempted to fix the issue with a new part design/manufacturing, so I went ahead and bought the unit new. My local Toyota dealership here in California wanted $1800 just for the part, so I bought it online from a dealership in Virginia for $1150 including tax and shipping. I'm a mechanical person so I might go ahead and buy that software and do the install myself. If you have any last minute tips I would love to hear them!

Safi Safari says:

You did a great job replacing the ABS unit for a couple $100 Mr. Bates! .I am trying to find a used unit online perhaps ebay, but I am confused about the model number.Do I consider just the number of the top of Toyota logo 44510-48080 or the other number on bottom of the logo gotta match too.It is for my brother-in-law 's Hibrid 2009 Model I believe. Thanks so much!

motormasters says:

Did you have to also use a vacuum pump to bleed the system, or just the software?

venom910k says:

How do I get the tech stream software if not from Ebay? I heard you said on Toyota web page, but could you provide the link? And is the software available for any individual or would you need a mechanic license or something like that?

robotandroid74 says:

I’m curious about the Techstream software you used. Is that something you already had? If not, where did you get it? I’d like to do a similar procedure on my TOYOTA hybrid, and I understand Techstream is necessary, or at least highly useful, for bleeding brakes after actuator replacement. Thanks for the great video and for any info you can provide about the Techstream.

pips master says:

Very good video Thanks
