DIY How to Change a Water Pump Impeller on Suzuki DT-55 [Suzuki DT-55 Water Pump Impeller]. There were a few things that went wrong when we did this, however, it was a learning experience. The impeller needed to be changed out as the thermostat light was indicating it was getting too hot which meant that not enough water was circulating to cool the motor which means that the impeller needs to be changed. They way you should change these every couple of years anyway. During attempted removal of the motor’s lower half, two of the mounting bolts were corroded into place and subsequently got twisted off. We had to drill them out and replace the screws. One of the main take aways from this was to make sure to disconnect the shifting linkage. For this motor, it disconnects under the engine cover.
