Steve Milliken says:

Hey, I’m just about to fix mine. Do you know what the electronic whine is
caused by before you turn on the car? Mine does it too and it’s really
quite annoying…

crimzon91 says:

@jq331 Not much actually … veeeery little =)

George Armerding says:

Going to go buy a belt

gosty23 says:

do you think you could upload a video of where the stuff is? mine is making
a similar noise right now

flex3k says:

You can also tell there is a problem when you turn the wheel and take a
look at the power steering reservoir you will see it is filled with air
bubbles another sign that air is getting in the way address it ASAP it can
break causeing damage to the pump

Juan Tamayo says:

@crimzon91 do you have a part number…cuz i am getting the same exact
noise :/

Greg H says:

The issue which this is can be 2 reasons. The most likely reason if the
pump in noisey when cold but subsides when warm is that it is getting air
into the system from the top O ring of the return hose. They tend to
cavitate slightly allowing small air bubbles into the system. This is
pretty common issue. The second reason could be the pump is worn out. More
likely the first reason however.

Drake Dorosh says:

Careful to check that your Subaru uses Dextron transmission fluid in the
steering reservoir. If it stinks you can use a ketchup pump to empty out
the old fluid and put in some bright red fresh stuff. After that if its
still heavy its to the mechanic.

crimzon91 says:

@paco2day Oh yeah I did. Check the description of the video. Also, in
addition, if this problem occurred, consider changing the belt; it plays a
role too.

Avi says:

@crimzon91 i did and it help it alot thanks!

Avi says:

dude thank you my 1997 audi a4 was making this sound when i was moved the
steering weel… so all i have to do is tighten the belt and add some
powersterring fluid?

jq331 says:

hahahahahahahaha… is this real?? what if you have a minor problem with
the car somewhere outside the town….how much you were under the lower
limit with the steering fluid?!?!?

crimzon91 says:

@getalife04 Believe it or not! i went and had my car washed from under with
soap and water, and the sound almost completely vanished !!!! i think the
car just needs to be greased here and there

stuart ellis says:

mine is doin the same, i have a leaky pipe so maybe i have air in mine
aswell! lets hope!

getalife04 says:

@crimzon91 Yeah I would also check your bearing on the power steering pump
if that’s bad then the whole unit needs to be replaced.

crimzon91 says:

@getalife04 I think nothing is wrong with the compressor… its working
very fine. The problem is all in the power steering pump which it doesn’t
show in the video =P its the third thing connected to the belt in the far
left. the car is working fine so far =S but yeah i’ll have it checked =P

roy garcia says:

@sammieetellem, im almost certain its the idler pulley going out mine was
doing the same thing replaced it and now it doesnt do it anymore

JohnnyUterus says:

did you try some lucky charms ?

crimzon91 says:

@kanekumar94 You are Velcome =P

crimzon91 says:

@sammieetellem Check the video description.

Batsukh Batzorig says:

Problem solved noise GONE

crimzon91 says:

@kanekumar94 power steering fluid =) just add some

Majuran Jeyakanthan says:

hey does this noise go after you start driving for a bit?

paco2day says:

@fuseballguy679 i have the same exact problem i think the belts might just
be worn out because when i turn the wheel the pulley kinda stops spining.
did u ever figuire it out?

Abu Bakr Maharaullee says:

HELLO Mate, i got same problem on my STI i will try to change the rubber
ring tomo will update u.

flex3k says:

The noise does go away once the fluid has warmed up and expanded and filled
in where the air leak is but eventually it will fail cause temp power
steering loss the wheel will judder when trying to turn not a good
experience can case and accident

Nomyzs114 says:

what i’ve done: i put seafoam AT and PS flusing fluid and run it according
to the instructions, then flush PS with new fluid- to get all of the
seafoam out of the system and put new fluid in. The noise is coming from
pum which has some air in the system insead of oil/fluid. As soon as you
will get rid of it it will be silent like a night! Good luck.

Fab24hdumans says:

Same issue on sti.. I am a noob, which “returning oil line are we talking
about”?! Low and high line on ac compressor ?? Thx

WRXD says:

I am happy my video helped you fix your problem

Nomyzs114 says:

Thanks man, yesterday i’ve done my power steering pump, i flushed the
system and replaced O-ring ( i thought its made of plastic) i got new
rubber one and the pump is quiet no it is silent like new!! You saved me
250 bucks! Thank You

Batsukh Batzorig says:

Mine just fixed changed those two belts

fuseballguy679 says:

@sammieetellem no i never figured out what the problem was, i replaced
every part of the power steering assembly with BRAND NEW parts with no
success. I sold the car and gave up, hope someone has better luck with
figuring out the problem.

crimzon91 says:

@getalife04 well the A/C was a little warmer no so cold, but that was
because it was running low on Freon. I’ve fixed that. Now i had the car
inspected and i was told the problem is clearly from thr power steering.
I’m not running low on fluid, its at the Exact. But i’m thinking of adding
some more to it considering the raise of temperature here … Thank you for
your help 🙂

crimzon91 says:

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE Pump was fine all the time The
returning-oil-hose connecting the oil reservoir to the pump has a small
rubber ring at the end of it where it gets connected the the pump. That
rubber ring got worn and allowed air to get in the system… I’ve changed
it for 15rs (5 dollars) and everything is PERFECT now =)

getalife04 says:

Sounds like your compressor might be going out. Does your A/C still get
cold? Without being there it is hard to tell for sure but that sound is
either the compressor going bad or you are low on power steering fluid.

getalife04 says:

@crimzon91 yeah actually I believe it lol. Cars are weird, they are like a
dog that limps until you take it to the vet and then it’s fine! lol well I
would still check out that compressor and make sure that is working
alright. If it just goes out on you that would really suck lol.

lrwatkins says:

power steering just add the fluid

flex3k says:

I had the same problem on my 06 sti power steering lines were hard as a
rock I replaced and topped off with new fluid and everything is fine I
would also recommend changing that o ring by the actual pws pump

roy garcia says:

sounds like the idler pulley is going bad, same thing was happening to mine
replaced it and doesnt do it anymore

Dominic Fong says:

Mine has a whining noise just like yours too. It isn’t obvious at idle
speed. It only becomes apparent from 1500 – 2500 rpm. Anything higher than
2500rpm isn’t as audible probably because the engine drone drowns it out.
It is like the whine of a turbo compressor.

Majuran Jeyakanthan says:

thanks!

reinhard79 says:

hi there ! where did you bought that o ring? and where did you bought it?
please let me now thanks
