This design was inspired by the hatch switch design by Steve over at SMK Fabrication (https://smkfabrication.com). This mod is for anyone who has ever been camping in their Subaru and wants to be able to get in and out through the hatch easily and have a clean and intuitive place to put a hatch release switch.
The hatch release switch kit comes with the button/baseplate/wires already assembled and includes wire taps; everything you need to complete this project!
If you didn’t want to buy the kit, you could always drill into the OEM interior hatch plug and add your own button, shroud, and wiring.

There was a easier way
One suggestion if I might, I would put a small connector between your new switch and the splice so that you can simply unplug from your switch and get the panel out of the way if you ever have to work on the area again. Having the panel hard wired into the existing harness could really become a nuisance during and subsequent work.
The balance of your design is awesome and your 3d printed solution is elegant and well conceived. I'm going to have to replace the existing primary switch here soon and I'll be ordering one of your kits soon.
