How to Install a Subaru Steering Dampener Lockdown & Review (Perrin) • Cars Simplified

This Perrin steering dampener lockdown component was moderately easy to install, and I am hoping by making the best installation video about it on YouTube, it will be extra easy for you to install yours! This fits many Subaru models, but to be sure it fits yours, check out this list of cars the manufacturer says this will fit: https://www.perrin.com/shop/drivetrain/steering-dampener-lockdown#compatibility

Some of the listed models are some of the years of the Subaru Crosstrek, Subaru WRX, Subaru Impreza, Subaru Forester, Subaru Legacy, and Subaru Outback.

Extension set: https://amzn.to/33MJuvo (brand/product I actually own)
5mm hex socket: https://amzn.to/30Mm4ED (I own the full 3/8″ set)
Work light: https://amzn.to/36RoAgC (Not what I own, but what I own isn’t great.)
Ratchet: https://amzn.to/2IvTgbV (Used but not seen in footage)
Gel threadlocker: https://amzn.to/36RoXI2 (VERY optional, the part comes with threadlocker)

Parts of this were filmed on a Canon Eos Rebel T5i with a Deity D3 Pro microphone (with deadcat/windsock) attached, and some of the shots (close quarters work and in-car) were filmed on a GoPro Hero 8 Black Edition.

I take it the end of the steering joints that you loosen 2 turn are splined? Or what keeps wheel lined up?

Excellent video. Not too slow, not too rushed. Clear voice. Kudos.

Adam Wicklam says:

Thanks for the video, good install tips!

TravisFabel says:

I find it funny how you say race car for not having a damper when a lot of street cars don't. Not just the STI, but GM had a whole generation vehicles without them…

Rick Friesen says:

I just got a 2020 Outback XT 14 days ago. Im likely to return it due to the awful “wandering” at speeds above 55. This car will not stay on track. Little wiggles left and right Constantly and it’s exhausting to drive. Would this part Fix that completely??!!

Linda Yee says:

Thank you for the video – exactly what I was looking for – informative and to the point.

Really useful, was consider buy one but now I think I will skip that, also I use a STI pitch stop mount, definitely worth the money for a MT car

Dave McGuigan says:

Very interesting topic. I have no plans to install one. But good to know info!
