How to fix a boost leak on a Subaru WRX 2014

How to fix a Boost Leak on a Subaru WRX, In this video I will show you how i found my boost leak and how to fix it with some hair spray. At the end of the video I do some pulls to show you if target boost is reached. This will work for 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 Subaru Wrx and Sti will differ a bit but the idea is the same. Using the Cobb accesport tuner v3 or v2 you can get you boost pressures to check for leaks. I will show you how to fix a intercooler to throttle body boost leak

Heard you had a boost leak in the Cobb SF review. Figured it was this issue, but wanted to check. Had the same issue with the dealership, though they said it was my fault for taking the intercooler off. You know, to check the problem in the first place. I don't go to dealerships any more.

Mishimoto throttle body hose FTW.

Mike Jimenez says:

Hey bro what do you think about “go fast highbird bov? They told me if my bov is bad it can cause a boost leak? What you think?

Huy Frank Pham says:

Would this throw a large evap leak CEL code?

MtnXfreeride says:

Mine was soaked in oil like yours as well.. with some oil spots on the parts sitting below the throttle body connection.

MtnXfreeride says:

its a simple job when the dealership who last removed your TMIC doesn't cross thread the bolts on the TMIC to Turbo.. so they snap… suddenly its a harder job 🙁

Mark Tigson says:

Did that hairspray fix last long term or did you end up replacing the intake hose?

cory brim says:

Shouldn't peak boost be higher than 15PSI on a stage 1 tune though?

MrJwill15586 says:

I have a screeching noise on high boost only just had head gaskets changed, new valve seals, heads resurfaced. new jdmv7 sti 6speed swap, new r160 3.90 rear diff. new motor mounts, new sti trans mount, I have a mishimoto tb to ic hose. I have a new sti starter to match the flywheel, new sti clutch disc, chromoly flywheel and pressure plate.

MrJwill15586 says:

hey whats up, im in sac also and I just swapped a jdmv7 6speed into a 2012 wrx.

Turbo Supra 2jz drag racing Toby Gear Head says:

I removed air filter….place boost leak air valve inside….apply 25 psi to boost leak valve….listen for leaks….spray w soapy water for confirmation.
Takes less 2 minutes.

Just did this last night before watching the video. My end cuffs were rolled and the back one was torn. I took them off, Note advice, Dont' do this if you don't want to have a hard time lining up the bolts lol. It works as a temp solution though if you have end couplers that are leaking. So make sure you prepare for that while you wait for your new Coupler tube. It's a bitch to get on there too. I dont' have a cobb intake or an ap yet unfortunately but I did notice I have way less swooshing sounds when hitting it, so I had a boost leak and didn't really notice cause the car felt powerful still. Last night it felt a little more torquey but otherwise felt the same after I fixed it. I need to get a tune lol and cobb intake so bad lol

robert johnson says:

Just installed my sf intake and flashed my ecu with the stage 1 +sf, after a day of driving my boost is completely lost and hit maybe 0.24 any suggestions on my issue. Been reading a bad gasket on either the y pipe or bov?

The Rex life says:

Is that what causes the 'whine'? The poor throttle body hose?

Dylan Campbell says:

do you have the Bullet proof mod done to your intercooler?

onewheelup says:

thats a ton of oil for a 2014 damn, mines a 13 and not even close to that, and i hope by now you've lean red to take those rubber pieces off and chunk then away, and you do not need to buy a after market hose the stock one with good clamps will hold up to like 22 or more psi and i know a lot of you guys aren't running that much.just chunk them and clean the oil and use t clamps if you want.i thought this was going to be a boost leak test video, which I've done too and its pretty easy, but you need to put soapy water all over everything which kinda sucks if your a clean freak.later

Always Misundrstood says:

Yo thank you so much for this video you just solved a headache I was having with my 13 Wrx!

Mr.NiceGuy says:

I'm in a rut. Just got the check engine light and cruise control blinker on. I just went stage 2 ETS because I did the full turboback exhaust system made sure my mechanic took out the restrictor pill and replaced it with rubber hosing. What might my issues be?

Brian Jin says:

im going to do a stage 1, what cobb access port device do you suggest?

NOVA Dash Cam says:

Factory radio for the win!

kkills21 says:

What should the boost be at stock and stage 1?

danny hamilton says:

my car is at the mechanic now and they tell me that TB hose is ruined. It hits full boost but doesn't hold it just like you say. They are going to put a silicone hose replacement in there. Also, this means you would of had a vacuum leak, correct?

Wesley Bucklew says:

Hey Blake, thanks for this video! I had been noticing hesitation with my turbo when I started boosting my 2014 WRX so I thought I'd check this out. When I took off the Intercooler my hose looked almost exactly like yours in the video! Luckily there was no oil but part of the hose where you put on the hairspray was ripped. I fixed it and text drove my car and it sounds and feels so much better now! Thanks again for your awesome videos and tips! You're the man!

Jody H says:

Thanks so much for this video. Had the basic idea in my head but the invisible IC->TB hose part was the unknown before I got in there.

Had the exact same problem, hose was barely connected on the TB side, and blown out like yours was. Reinstalled the same hose after cleaning up, will see how it goes before I replace.
