gmeast says:

Thank you for the concise presentation. A young friend of mine bought a Saturn that had damage that now requires this kit. Thanks again!

Gabriel Velazquez says:

Engine assembly lube should suffice for llubrication

mrjets0n says:

For greasing the timing chain guides, will coastal hi-temp grease work? It doesn’t mention anything about moly on the tub..

mrjets0n says:

Nice.. So just to confirm i could take the timing cover off without oil leaking everywhere? Because i assume that yu drained the oil anyway because of the other repairs that yu had in line.

DoSumpthin says:

As far as I know that is not necessary. The oil will stay in the pan, which is not necessary to remove.

mrjets0n says:

Working on the timing chain now with the engine in the car 2000 saturn sc2. Should i drain the oil before taking off the timing chain cover?

townsent1 says:

Great video. Way to preserve the Saturn way. May our Saturns live forever!

inlinesicks says:

Also it was very sudden, just driving along perfectly fine and all of a sudden it was a V-Twin lol. Oh and its not mixing oil and coolant that I can tell. I thought maybe valves but 2 at the exact same time seems unlikely. When cyl 1 and 2 were exactly the same compression it made me think the head gasket was blown between the two cylinders which is why it isn’t doing the typical head gasket things like smoking and mixing fluids.

inlinesicks says:

Well as I was driving home today my car(91 sl2) started running really rough and had no power. When I got home I started looking into it and cyl 1 and 2 spark plug wells were full of oil. So I cleaned them out and changed the valve cover gasket. When I went to start it the starter sounded weird, like no resistance. So I ran a compression test and I have 30psi on 1 and 2 and 125psi on 3 and 4. The chain/guides look fine. I’m thinking head gasket, what would be your guess?

DoSumpthin says:

Typically a tapping or rattling sound. The first time I did mine it was noisy, I had high mileage so I decided to change it rather than tempt fate.

DoSumpthin says:

Thank you very much for the compliment!

inlinesicks says:

What does it sound like when the timing chain or guides go bad? I have a rattling sound at certain rpm’s but not at idle that sounds like its coming from the timing cover, could that be chain related?

inlinesicks says:

This is one of the best car related DIY videos I have ever seen!

DoSumpthin says:

Hi, if you have to disassemble things and want to preserve the timing then you can wire tie the chain to the sprockets. This way when you reassemble it should be ok.

Mohammed abdul nayeem says:

how to log the timing
