Awesome video! But more often than not things don’t go as planned.
looks like they use lost styrofoam to cast the block heh
Thank you for the concise presentation. A young friend of mine bought a Saturn that had damage that now requires this kit. Thanks again!
Awesome video I myself am planning on doing a timing chain job on my 97 Saturn SL2. Thing is rattling bad with 196,072 miles I recently bought the car and gonna fix it up.
money tight do i need to do head repairs when my timing chain went out
Hi—-You video is Great–I wish You post this last year when I got a replacement engine for my 1995 saturn–It was not easy
awesome video man! Well edited, really makes me want to rebuild my 01′ DOHC 1.9 (55k) in my 2000 SC2, & add a small turbo too
It’s a lot of work but if you seek help on a forum like saturnfans-dot-com then you can surely pull it off.
amazing, professional grade video.
This video was very helpful your awsome man. Good infomation all around an you explainned it well. You have my thumbs up an a like.
I want to rebuild my saturn sc2 97 it’s has 240.xxx km do u think its time to rebuild it? And I’m scared to do it by my self! I need someone to motivated me 🙁
thank you very very much for this video
Engine assembly lube should suffice for llubrication
For greasing the timing chain guides, will coastal hi-temp grease work? It doesn’t mention anything about moly on the tub..
Nice.. So just to confirm i could take the timing cover off without oil leaking everywhere? Because i assume that yu drained the oil anyway because of the other repairs that yu had in line.
As far as I know that is not necessary. The oil will stay in the pan, which is not necessary to remove.
Working on the timing chain now with the engine in the car 2000 saturn sc2. Should i drain the oil before taking off the timing chain cover?
Great video. Way to preserve the Saturn way. May our Saturns live forever!
Also it was very sudden, just driving along perfectly fine and all of a sudden it was a V-Twin lol. Oh and its not mixing oil and coolant that I can tell. I thought maybe valves but 2 at the exact same time seems unlikely. When cyl 1 and 2 were exactly the same compression it made me think the head gasket was blown between the two cylinders which is why it isn’t doing the typical head gasket things like smoking and mixing fluids.
Well as I was driving home today my car(91 sl2) started running really rough and had no power. When I got home I started looking into it and cyl 1 and 2 spark plug wells were full of oil. So I cleaned them out and changed the valve cover gasket. When I went to start it the starter sounded weird, like no resistance. So I ran a compression test and I have 30psi on 1 and 2 and 125psi on 3 and 4. The chain/guides look fine. I’m thinking head gasket, what would be your guess?
Typically a tapping or rattling sound. The first time I did mine it was noisy, I had high mileage so I decided to change it rather than tempt fate.
Thank you very much for the compliment!
What does it sound like when the timing chain or guides go bad? I have a rattling sound at certain rpm’s but not at idle that sounds like its coming from the timing cover, could that be chain related?
This is one of the best car related DIY videos I have ever seen!
Hi, if you have to disassemble things and want to preserve the timing then you can wire tie the chain to the sprockets. This way when you reassemble it should be ok.
how to log the timing
Italo Labignan, very similar voice , great videos , going to check out ammo videos next
